That is some hardware driver out of whack. My graphics card also did that when I first got it. I went radeon and obviously didn't really uninstall the nvidia drivers correctly. The system would remind me of this ever so often with that screen.

Update all of your drivers. This happened to me, I'd been using the same SB Live drivers for six months without a problem, then all of a sudden, boom.

Had a similar experience to X-Man. Keep getting this BSOD every now and then at random intervals. It then mysteriously went away after I upgraded my SBLive to a TBSC. I would look at SBLive drivers if you do have one of these cards.

In that case your best bet would be to update to the latest drivers for your hardware. What hardware have you for occupying your PCI slots?

update drivers is what everybody says, but if I will tell you WHY you are getting this error.

From what I understand it is caused by 2 pieces of hardware trying to write to the same memory address at the same time. You can correct this problem by making sure none of your hardware shares irq addresses. This might fix it, but I doubt it.

This is my story...

I only get that error when I'm maxing out my bandwidth (irc...). So I look at my IRQ's and see that my network card is on the same irq as my video card. I move my NIC and I get it to share an IRQ with my USB. The BSODs were less frequent. Then a couple of months later they happen again, with greater frequency. So I move some more hardware around and finally get everything to be on seperate IRQs. That didn't work. I did a fresh XP install and the samething! I bought a new NIC card and the SAME thing still happens.

I'm guessing something is physically wrong now. I'm planning on taking everything apart and cleaning out any dust on the contacts. Which probably won't help..

I tell you, I've been struggling with this IRQL BSOD for 6 months now... :( Too poor to invest in a new system, but I can't pinpoint the problem.

whoa :( very discouraging...

at first i got it when doing random windows tasks so i did system restore to previous day (i had tweaked loadsa settings that day) and it was fine in windows but crashed after about 10 mins of playing diablo2 online... so i reinstalled dx9 and cats and so far so good, i played for a couple hours today and my comp has been on all day without any crashes.... knock on wood :)

I usually get this when my RAM temps get too high. Try opening the case and blowing a fan in there just for a short while to see if the error message goes away.

its hadnt even occurred to me that this could be a ram problem, i have one 512mb samsung pc2700 stick... but ill test it when i have some time this weekend.

yeah my temps are a little high, because ive had to turn off some case fans to give my radeon enough power so thats definitely something to look into, because my buddy was up here last week and kept saying that my case got way to hot all the time.

the weird thing is i never have this problem when im running linux, but then again i never really use it for more than an hour at a time, tops.

thx for all the input, im goin to ottawa this weekend and when i get back im gonna dismantle my box, rearrange my pci cards, remove that extra nic im not using, try to plug in an extra fan and run some extensive memory tests.

peace
