IRQ trouble with Mobo and USB and modem....

I have an Epox EP-8RDA+ mobo and a Lucent winmodem, and when the modem is installed in any PCI slot it takes IRQ 12. The four USB ports also reside at good ol' IRQ 12. So basically when the modem is installed two of the USB ports refuse to work, no matter what I try. There does not seem to be any way under Win XP pro to change the IRQ of any of the three devices either. Does anyone know any potential workarounds?

IRQs don't matter as long as everything is PCI. That's part of the reason why Windows XP doesn't let you play with them.

Make sure you got the latest drivers for the modem and everything else. Let Windows Update do its job.

IRQ12, in general, sounds a bit fishy though. Do you have a PS/2 mouse connected? If not, is the PS/2 mouse port properly disabled, and does Windows XP also think it's not there?

With the USB drivers being generic in Windows and known to work reasonably well, I'd say it's the modem drivers who mess things up. Give them an update, and if none available, get a different modem.
