i am not sure, but it seems my video card is sharing irqs with a couple of other things that it should not. sandra 2001 detects four things on irq 10: radeon, acpi irq holder for pci irq steering, via tech 3038 pci to usb universal host controller, and via tech 3038 pci to usb universal host controller again. is this expected? i would doubt it. how do i solve this conflict?

If your running win2k it's fine. Even if your not if it ain't broke don't fix it. :) Basically if you haven't found any negative issues because of this then don't worry aobut it :)

Any new devices should share IRQs fine.

Unless your specifically have a problem, don't worry about it.

Disable ACPI in the BIOS. (I never understand nor found the use of this function anyway)
Have PCI 1 slot open. Then it will solve your problem.

from your brief description I'm thinking windows doesn't have enough irqs to juggle with so suggest you disable your serial ports in bios to free up 2 irqs which will hopefully then be taken up by the via tech 3038 pci to usb universal host controller, and via tech 3038 pci to usb universal host controller. it's normal for videocard to share irq with acpi irq holder for pci irq steering.
if that doesn't sort you out post back with your full irq listing! :)

I just went through IRQ hell myself this week. My Network Card, GeForce, Sound Card, and USB Bus all went to IRQ11 no matter what I did. This was even in spite of disabling both COM 1&2. Check and see if you have an option in your BIOS for "Reset Configuration". If you do, remove all the conflicting devices in Device Manager and choose "Yes" for the above option in the BIOS prior to Windows boot up. This may help Windows sort out your problems. If it does, make sure you change this to "No" on the next boot up.
Doing what I described did get everything off IRQ11 for me but still didn't utilize IRQ's that weren't being used. So, I ended up turning off "PNP OS" in the BIOS and manually assigning my IRQ's, also in the BIOS. My MOBO (ASUS P3B-F) has the option to do this and yours may also.
Stay with this, you'll get it worked out. While everything may work, everything shouldn't be on one IRQ... ;)

sharkB8...thanks for the info...this weekend i am going to work on separating my SB Live! and Netgear FA312 NIC from the same IRQ...i have one free IRQ (9)...would you suggest giving the empty IRQ to the SB Live! or the NIC?

dalfallo- I prefer to have my NIC on an IRQ all by itself if possible in spite of the fact that the NIC's of today are much more tolerant of sharing an IRQ with something else. On my P3B-F PCI slots 4,5 and the USB serial bus must share an IRQ, especially if you manually assign IRQ's in the BIOS. My NIC is in slot 4 so it is sharing with the USB bus and there is no way around this unless I switched the NIC to another PCI slot. I do use USB devices so I can't disable the USB bus but my NIC doesn't seem to mind sharing with it.
I have a sound blaster sound card as well and it is in PCI 3. I assigned an IRQ to it as well and since I don't use any DOS applications I disabled "SB16 Emulation" in Device Manager. SB16 Emulation requires and IRQ to work but since I don't need it, why not make it inop?
Make no mistake, cards will share IRQ's by design but I just think it's insane to see everything all on one and some IRQ's not even being used.... :Q
