IRQ conflict (I think) w/ SBLive. Plz help!

I recently installed an SB Live X-gamer (not audigy) that I bought off Egghead a year or so ago into my new machine. It worked perfectly (on my Pentium Pro 160, with a small lag at quake3😉). Now when I put it into my new machine, the DVD drive stops responding (no lights, refuses to open) as soon as the BIOS passes control to W98SE. When the Drive IS open at boot, W98SE refuses to detect the card, and SB16 emulation program says there's a PCI/IRQ conflict. Because I never heard of Aopen before I got the drive cheap, I swapped to for a Creative Labs 12X DVD. Same problem.

I tried REMing all the entries to sb16emu in autoexec.bat, but no change.

Also, I tried to connect my 10 gig to the secondary RAID channel (before the sound card), but it didn't see it.
Thank you for your help

My specs are as follows
KR7Raid
1800+ XP
512 2100 crucial
Visiontek Ge3 Ti 200 (AGP)
Netgear NIC (PCI #1)
SBLive (tried in every empty slot)
LiteOn 16/10/40 (Primary Master)
Aopen 16x DVD (Secondary Master)
WD 80GIG (RAID Primary Master)

Your going to have to reload the machine and before you load the DVD software for the drive install the sound card but install everything else before this had the same problem with a machine that I built for a friend the funny thing is that his is raided to maybe that could have something to do with it try it on just on IDE

Should I use the 1 yr old drivers on my SBCD? I can't find the drives for Creative except the upgrade for their bloatware on their website. The only software that the cheapo-DVD came with was PowerDVD 2.55, and I didn't install that till after the problems w/ the sound card.

I'll reinstall #@$@ W98 again as a last resort. Though I'm not in front of the machine tonight, I'll try making the DVD a slave with the CD-RW.. does anyone know what PIO mode DMA-33 is?

which pci slot is that x-gamer in? make sure it isn't in the first of last slot, see if that effects any change.

My buddies computer had the x-gamer in the last pci slot never even thought about that let me know how it goes

Thanks all for your help.. Making the DVD a slave did nothing.. I deleted a device under the system/audio control panel, (It had a blank discription) and now the sound has an annoying echo sound.. Creative Lab's site helpfully suggests to RTFM for any tech-support #s in America.:disgust: Does anyone have it?

I've heard of other SB products dying after a year. If I can't RMA or fix this, I'll avoid their products in the future.
