For those that don't know, some theatres are bypassing the Thursday Midnight showings and starting them earlier.

My local Regal Cinemas will start showing it Thursday evening and has showings at 8:00, 8:15, 8:30, 8:45, 11:00, 11:15, 11:30, and 11:45 P.M.

Roger Ebert is a fairly good movie reviewer but now that it's always Roeper and flavour of the day I don't care for them any more. Roeper just isn't discerning enough, he always seems to find something to like in even some of the worst movies and thumbs them up anyway. He really doesn't seem that knowledgeable about the art of cinema and acting, Ebert on the other hand does, maybe it's just my personal taste?

Iron Man was my favorite hero when I was a kid. I read the comics, watched the cartoons, and collected the action figures. I can't wait to see this movie!

Everything I've seen in the trailers has looked like recycled action movie cliches.

It's going to take a lot to change my mind...mainly word of mouth from the right people. You all enjoy though.

Good to see it's getting favorable reviews on RT. Should be at least a decent movie, which when considering it's a comic book movie, should be great. :D

Started collecting/reading "Invincible Iron Man" comics when I was about 12 yrs. old (1969). I just wished still have the early issues which are worth something these days. Ending up trading them for other comics with a classmate. I'm still kicking myself for doing this.

Thank god for "usenet/newsgroups" I'm able to download scans of these.

Hey, I traded my cousin like 4 '87 Fleer Jordans for 2 "Larry Bird Sticker Cards"

so get bent

The most valuable sports cards don't even come close to the most valuable comic books. For example, Iron Man #1, which is nowhere near the big comic books, is still worth twice the rookie '87 Jordan.

It'd really hurt to have traded away Action Comics #1 (worth almost $1mil at near mint (9.4 graded) condition).

I personally don't trust RT because they (critics, amateur and professional alike) rate movies as if they should be works of art meeting all criteria on their checklist instead of considering one simple thing:

Entertainment value.

I can enjoy slow-moving flicks as much as anyone but I'm not going to trust a site that gives American Beauty an 89% while huge blockbuster action flicks that get my pulse racing something like 20%. F'that.

The problem with only looking at the freshrating on RT is that a movie can get 100% Fresh rating if every critic scores the film a 70/100, meaning every critic thought the film was ok. Yet a movie could get 10/10 from 40 critics, while 10 give it a 5/10, and it would only be 80% Fresh, which I'd take to mean the overwhelming majority of critics thought the movie was fantastically amazing and a small minority thought it was slightly less than average. You have to look deeper than just the freshrating, which sort of makes the freshrating pretty useless. Better to use Metacritic which scales the scores of multiple critics for a more accurate summary.

For those who don't know, this is the first Marvel movie that is actually owned and made by Marvel. Movies like Spiderman and X-Men were made by other studios and made Marvel relatively little money, mostly they got their money from the merchandising and not from the movie.
With this movie Marvel could make a few hundred million in profits. Not bad for a company that made a little over a hundred million profits a year before this.
Now if the Hulk smashes (and isn't that what the Hulk does best?), Marvel stock could go way up.....

I'm not a comic book reader, but as an avid movie buff, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. The only negative I've seen/heard about the movie so far is the Execs. crying about GTA4 stealing some of Ironmans thunder.

I will not be seeing this movie simply because the actor in the ironman suit looks dumb in the suit with his face showing. also, it looks like a dumb POS.

What? They're complaining about a GAME stealing the MOVIES thunder? IMO that's not a comparison that can be made and I hope that's just a poor rumor and the execs aren't really that whiny.

 Here's to all those alcoholic, suave, zillionaire tycoons, that get all the women. Man, I love those comic book stereotypes who need to be emulated.

As an aside, this Saturday is Free Comic Book Day!
