The footage. Being bootleg, of course, it's too dark and hard to see in a lot of places, but not so much you can't see a guy going on a bigger rampage than an Elemental in Battletech

ETA: Not great, but I also ran across some "spyshots" of the primary armor for the movie (red/gold) it's not bad, though for some reason we get almost a minute of filler until we see the suit (around the 0:50 mark). http://youtube.com/watch?v=IWBe6esV-eM

He was a weapons developer, as seen when he was bragging to the troops about his new badass repulsor ray technology.

Almost getting his face off with an explosive mine gave him a change of heart (no pun intended) on the ethics of making things to kill people So he kind of goes on a quasi-redemption thing by becoming a superhero.

That or because guys love the idea of stomping around in a giant robot suit blowing the crap out of things.

Either one works, really, but mostly number 2.

wow. don't normally like comic book movies but i might have to see this. saw zodiac last night and i think robert downey jr was great in that.

I'm impressed anyone else caught the fact that it kinda does look like an elemental.

first suit - original suit used to break out of afghan prison
second suit - oringally designed to help keep him alive - modified into battle armor

its going to be interesting to see if downy plays stark as well as the previews look. I read iron man as a kid and stark was complex and cocky and had an addictive nature so downy was a perfect pick and the previews look like they were practically reading lines from the comic book. If so this might be the first marvel movie that actually stays true to the original character.

Drakkon answered it, but the second suit is built with all of the money, technology, equipmen, an resources he has at Star Industries. A rough comparison would be a yugo vs. a $200,000 professional race car:" The first one kind of sucks, but does the job. he second one is an example of the best engineering and high quality parts available on the market.

Plus the new suit flies and is more compact.

Then again i think Stark isn't cast right either..
