Iron Man Blogging Competition

For the past two years, I've been doing this "Iron Man" blogging thing every April. In 2005 it was just between me and a friend to see who could post every day for the longest stretch. In 2006, we opened it up to some other friends and internet acquaintances (we had seven participants that year). This year, we're letting absolutely anyone compete. Here's the site if you're interested (or know anyone who might be):

ironmanbloggingcompetition.com

It has the complete rules and registration form and so on. Basically, participants just have to write 300 words every day. Whoever lasts the longest wins. This year, the prize is a one-year Namecheap domain registration.

Even if you're not interested in participating, we could use some topics for our "Topic of the Day" list. (Participants get a few extra points if they devote at least 60 words of a post to that day's subject.) Just drop an email to the address on this page.

The deadline for registration is midnight, March 31st. Competition begins April 1st.

Thanks

EDIT: Oh yeah, and just in case anyone was wondering, it's totally free and doesn't involve ads or iPod schemes or anything. It's just a fun little non-profit project organized by a couple guys during their free time.

just 300 words? or 300 words that make sense.

Could I copy and paste the word "cliffs" 300 times?

Nah, it has to have at least a little substance. From the official (comprehensive) rules:

303. Posts must contain meaningful, significant, original information.

303.a. In other words, the content that is presented as the blogger?s own writing (as opposed to quoted text, intentional paraphrasing/summary, etc.) must not be plagiarized. And:

303.b. The participant must attempt to be coherent. His/her prose should make sense and demonstrate that he/she put some amount of effort into composing the text.

303.b.i. For example, the following sorts of behaviors are unacceptable (and will result in disqualification): Typing ?narf? three hundred times to meet the CV score requirement; repeatedly writing long passages about how hard it is to come up with the minimum word count; intentionally padding one?s word count with keyboard mashings like ?setr34 wrfcase56 fdgvd!!?; repeatedly writing pointless fictions with no evidence of significant forethought (?Okay, so for today?s post I?m going to tell you the story of a purple dragon that flew into a cave and ate a cow. His name was Jeremy and he liked the color green. One day Jeremy was gliding over the countryside and?? etc. etc.).

303.c. There should not be a significantly noticeable use of repetition or redundant information. (E.g. a participant that mentions brushing his teeth in almost every post without providing further exposition or a reason for logging such a mundane event could risk disqualification.)

303.d. Generally, § 303 is meant to prevent gross abuse of the competition?s parameters. As stated before (in §§ 103.a.i, 104, 202.b, 301.c.i, etc.), the organizers will use their power to disqualify participants sparingly and only when necessary to eliminate bloggers that willfully try to contravene the spirit of the IMBC rules.

Well, last year we had two winners -- they both went 47 days. The year before that, the winner went only 11 days. Last year, most of the participants lasted 20-30 days, with the first one out at 7 days.

EDIT: And it can't last longer than 11 months, according to the comprehensive rules. But I really doubt we'll see the day where that limitation becomes necessary... :p

Sorry, it's pretty much just random stuff from nobodies. You're not required to read it.

Your prize is lame. If you want more people you need to give out a sweet prize... like a wii or something.

A $8.88 prize!? A prize like that is insulting. It would be cooler if it were just for fun.
