I'm about to buy a new MP3 player, and want one that will display my digital camera photos, and play videos.

Which one should I pick?

Ipod:
-I can use iTunes
-Slick interface
-Plays video at 30fps

Iriver:
-USB host mode
-Better Sound
-More features: radio etc
-Video @ 10fps

If they were both the same price, what would you pick?

I love my 30GB iPod Video.

That said, if you actually want to watch videos you might not like it. Battery life is about 2 hours for me during playback, though it looks stunning.

The iPod is just easier for me. I know iTunes very well and I am familiar with the user interface, which takes little to no learning to understand.

Honestly, I don't think the iPod video is that great for video playback. I don't know what the iRiver is like, but the screen on the iPod 5G is just too small. The battery life is also way too short. I prefer watching videos on my Axim x30 PDA, which is powerful enough to playback regular HDTV divx encodes.

I bought the iRiver in the end. Can't wait to get it.

It only cost me 200 US, where the iPod would've cost $300+.

If you want to watch videos, the Cowon iAudio X5 is good for that. It's also good for anything the iPod can do, and more.

Plus the battery life for watching videos is more like 10 hours if you get the -L edition (for longer-life batteries).

Or, if you want to wait, the X7 is coming out to directly compete with the iPod video. But just know that there is an MP3 (and OGG, and just about anything) player out there that played videos before iPod owners were even dreaming about it.

I'm an iPod convert.

I initially had a creative zen micro and it was rubbish, then got a 4GB nano and I've just added a 30GB video to the mix.

To be perfectly honest another manufacturer would have to release an incredible product to move me away from apple now.

check out misticriver.net. i love my h320, the screen is crystal clear and the support from misticriver.net is awesome. i get about 10 hours of music life with 192kbs songs, video is about 3 hours. the h320 is also regocnized as an external hard drive. a big plus imo.
