Still at $366. Quite a good deal really, especially as amazon has it for $400 still.

Amazon's iHP-140

I wrote an email off to sales at iriver.com to ask them if they planned on adding ogg vorbis live recording support (on top of being able to record just as mp3/wav), and they replied telling me to upgrade to the latest patch. As I don't have one yet, anyone know if that is true?

I love my iRiver H120/iHP-120. I wish the H140 was this cheap when i was shopping or i would have picked it up!

:)

Per the iRiver firmware page:

2. Format - Player can be formatted with out a computer. This is included for two possible functions.

a. Remove all the files on your player at one time
b. Recover the drive when it does not perform properly
c. Steps:

i. Power on the H player
ii. Connect your player to the AC adapter
iii. Press and hold the Navi button to enter the Firmware Menu
iv. Select "General" and press the Navi button
v. Select "Format" at the bottom of the menu.
vi. Select Yes to confirm and press in on the Navi button to format the drive.
** Warning, formatting will erase all the files on your player. Please be sure to keep backup copies of all important data files.

3. Playback Speed Control - Play audio at faster or slower than normal rate.

i. Press and hold the Navi button to enter the Firmware Menu
ii. Select the "Control" menu and press the Navi button to enter the menu.

iv. Speed can be set from -5 to +5. using << or >> on the Navi button.
v. Press the Navi button to confirm the selection.
vi. Press the "Stop/Power Off" button twice to exit the firmware menu.
vii. Press the Play button to play a track at the desired speed.

4. Reduced Gap Playback - Player will attempt to detect silence at the end of a track and skip to the next to avoid unnecessary silence between songs.

5. Sub-Folders supported in TEXT folder.

Sadly, NO mention of OGG recording. :(

I think a big difference between the Zen and the IRiver is the warranty. I had pretty much decided that I didn't deserve spending the money on the awesomeness that is the IRiver IHP and decided to settle on a much lower priced Zen. Unfortunately the Zen's 90 day warranty killed the deal for me. Anyone that won't give more than a 90 day warranty on electronics that cost $200+ loses my confidence.

Speaking of IRiver's quality, I haven't owned one of their MP3 players, but I did buy their slim cd/mp3/ogg player and it was the best cd player I'd ever owned. I dropped it from a moving bike and it kept on ticking, which always impressed me. If I hadn't been a hoser and lost it I might not be so hesitant to spend the money on one of their mp3 players.

so i'm debating between the iriver or the ipod mini. i love the ipods small size but the iriver 120 seems like a pretty good deal - built-in fm tuner, 20gb hd, etc. what do you guys recommend?

Most BestBuys have the iriver "touchy-feely" display model right next to the ipods at the cellphone/mp3/camera counter.

The H120 is virtually the same width and heigth as the ipod, and at most 2-3 mm thicker. The H140 is another 2-3 mm thicker than the H120 due to the 40GB 1.8" drive inside being a tad thicker.

It has OGG, MP3 and WMA support out of the box.

A 1 year warranty from iriver, and an additional year from my platinum card make it a great deal.

Both optical and regular line in & out in addition to the headphone jack make it very versatile indeed.

The package comes with a wired LCD remote, an external mic in addition to the built-in mic, usb cables, earbuds, line in/out cable, leather case ,wall charger, and even a small 4" cable to "extend" the earphone port a bit if your earphones have a larger, clunky adapter.

iskin, the maker of the cool rubber ipod skin cases have announced an iriver case available by mid-month.

PC magazine gave it 5/5 and thier editors choice over the ipod here http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1623026,00.asp

I can personally vouch for the iriver's 12+ hour battery times (15+ hour. in several instances)

enjoy, from a happy iriver owner

feature wise, the iriver is great. grips i have is the navigation could be better, interface is not as good as the ipod (with the stupid button), and the line out works like a second headphone jack instead of a real line out.

Oddly, the global site is updated far more often than the America-specific site. There were 4 or 5 new firmware versions for my SlimX 550 on the global site that were not on the American site.

I just bought the IHP-120 last night and overall I love it. The only gripes I have so far is the high initial learning curve of the interface, the poor fm reception, and the fact you can not record the fm audio.

Zen Touch has a 1 yr warranty on parts, 90 days on labor. I owned it for a week now and I am happy.

Been shopping around for an mp3 player, and based on all of your reviews I am picking one of these up. Found a $40 rebate form for a online retailer, but since I haven't posted in soooooo long, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post rebate links :/

eh, at least I got free shipping on the thing. Very hard to do for someone living in Hawaii. :p

*edit* geez, I should change my rig sig at the bottom...that IS old.
