iRiver 140 or Ipod 30gb, which to buy?

iRiver stuff rocks. I'd get it in a heartbeat, especially since it operates as a USB Mass Storage Device, with no drivers or special 'jukebox' software needed. The iPod requires special software, which for me = no deal.

The iRiver is too new. You never know what the hell may go wrong with it.

I bought a Creative Zen NX when it first came out, thinking that was the iPod killer. Three replacemetns later, I finally sold a brand new one that was sent as a replacement, and bought the iPod. Creative is just a crappy builder and simply doesn't have quality control, nor design thought, down.

creative is nothing compared to iriver, i will never buy another creative product after being forced to wait in line to download drivers for the soundcard i bought. rediculous.

the ihp-100 has been out for quite a while... ihp-140 is just more capacity

go for the iriver

i had a 20gb 3g ipod (enough to hold my 13gb of music.) i picked up an ipod mini just for kicks. i didn't used my 20g ipod for weeks, and finally sold it.

of course it depends on your uses. i use the mini at the gym and i fvcking love the small size, weight, and arm band. not to mention the interface rocks and the arm band is just plain sexy. i thought that the capacity would be a problem, but i quickly realized my foolishness. 4gb is more than enough - it's a pain at first to go through your entire library and filter out the songs you want, but it forced me to put together really good music. (it wasn't until this time that i realized that i had over 700mb of dave matthews.....bleh.)

And that's coming from someone who doesn't own or use an iPod on a daily basis.

i love that this statement comes out of so many of the people on this forum. you guys can't justify a $50 increase for better style, design, and functionality, yet many of you will pay $400 on a video card that will give you an extra 10fps in ut2004

get a fvcking clue.

I actually agree.

Also..I am considering the iPod Mini, also. So you like yours, eh?

yah, it's awesome. i guess my only complaint is the battery life. personally, i feel that they could have extended the battery life (beyond 8 hours) w/o compromising size. my guess is that they didn't want to draw away sales from their regular (and more expensive) ipods - they simply wanted to capture customers that were opting for smaller players. i'm willing to bet that a longer battery life in the mini would have solidified the decision for someone teetering on the edge of deciding between a mini and a regular ipod. i'd be interested in a review that compared the internal hardware of the two players.

the philips looks good but thats bout it. i touched it today at bestbuy.

anti-ipod. pro-iriver. when my zen usb2 dies, i'd choose either iriver or take a good look at the dell dj. DELL?? dell.

i'd say most people voting for the iPod have never owned the iRivier, or have never owned either. In my experience, the iHP-120 is and always will be the best mp3 player on the market (I returned my 2nd gen 15gb iPod).

The are the same size.

however... the iRiver has the longer lasting battery, more memory, UMS capabilities for loading music without drivers/software indexing, fm stereo, SRS surround soundl, integrated voice recorder, better remote, optical line in/out, and a wealth of other options. it should be a nobrainer. do more research and the decision will seem obvious.
