IRC Dropping

First, the disclaimer: I am a complete beginner to networking.

I just bought a Linksys BEFSX41 router for my two computers, and now IRC drops constantly on both systems. I don't seem to be experiencing any problems while surfing, using TeamSpeak or playing games. I've updated my router to the lastest firmware and I've tried enabling DMZ, to no avail. It seems to me that it's an issue between IRC and the router. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix? Thanks.
 
If you take the router out of the picture, and hook directly up are you having the same problems?
First lets make sure that it is actually the router causing the problem, even if it worked (before) take it out and verify that it is your problem.
 
I forgot to mention that I guess. IRC works fine without the router when I'm hooked directly to the cable modem. I just added the router to the system a few days ago and that's when the problem started.
