U.S. Says It May Have Found Iraqi WMD Storage Site

NEAR BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. biological and chemical weapons experts believe they may have found an Iraqi storage site for chemical weapons, a U.S. officer told Reuters on Monday.

A military source who declined to be identified said there were unconfirmed reports there could be sarin -- a highly lethal nerve agent that causes death by suffocation -- at the site.

The U.S. news station National Public Radio, reporting what appeared to be a separate discovery, said U.S. forces found a weapons cache of around 20 medium-range missiles equipped with potent chemical weapons.

NPR said the rockets, BM-21 missiles, were equipped with sarin and mustard gas and were "ready to fire."

It said the cache was discovered by Marines with the 101st Airborne Division, which was following up behind the Army after it seized Baghdad's international airport.

One wonders why they weren't.

Poorly trained military couldn't figure out if it is the "red" button, or the "blue" button. ;)

Maybe the ignighters were bad... kind of like what used to happen in with the Estes model rockets.

Maybe the long extension cord they had running to the launcher failed them when the power went out?? :D

Interesting though that they were NOT used if they were ready to be launched.

It's also possible that they were not used because the commanders in the field didn't want to use them.

I, for one, can't wait to see what Morph has to say about this...

I thought I heard something that only Saddam and his sons were allowed to order chemical or biological attacks at this point in time. Not sure though.

Perhaps. Leaving them for us to find strikes me as a bit odd.

I remain skeptical.

NightTrain, seems like they only have two choices: fire the chemical missles or leave them for the US/UK to find. The commanders made the wise choice not to be held for war crimes by firing the missles.

He will say they were planted of course.

Shame on you all!
Do you still believe their propaganda?

First of all...it's not propaganda or like the Iraqis, we would still refuse to admit the obvious. It was an unconfirmed report.

Second: NPR said the rockets, BM-21 missiles, were equipped with sarin and mustard gas and were "ready to fire."

Do they use rockets to dispense their pesticides?

It's just like 90% of the reporting that has went on for 3 weeks...you have to wait until it's completely verified before going off.

Everyone on both sides should take a wait and see approach.

I agree.
When I say "propaganda" it means that when they reported this (and several other false reports) you guys believed it as THE TRUTH. And a guy attacked Morph also.
It will happen again and again when US media says "WMD found" until the end of the war or until they actually find it.

So don't get excited until completely verified.

The truth is that "Don't believe anything at first until verified completely."

I guess we have to wait for Story version 3.0 on the WMD site before they get it right. ..."What is Microsoft ran the Media?" LOL

Probably because the first few bombs of the war took out the right people.

Were millions of soldiers both Iran and Iraq sides killed during Iran-Iraq war by gas?
