MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- A top Iraqi official attending an international conference on raising funds to rebuild Iraq warned Thursday that France and Germany's limited donations would not be forgotten.

Ayad Allawi, the current head of Iraq's U.S.-appointed governing council, said he hoped German and French officials would reconsider their decision not to boost their contributions beyond funds already pledged through the European Union.

"As far as Germany and France are concerned, really, this was a regrettable position they had," Allawi said. "I don't think the Iraqis are going to forget easily that in the hour of need, those countries wanted to neglect Iraq."

It sucks that we the US taxpayers are on the hook for rebuilding Iraq, but the blame lies not with the French or Germans, but with Bush.
The French and Germans are absolutely right not to donate money or troops, because that will just free up US resources to start another preemptive war.
There is no such thing as free war.

I'm sure they are really worried. As Michelin and BMW crank out the finest products we are gutting our industries and will come crawling to them for loans for our next expidition.

french leadership is one large turd pile. since there is so much 'iraqi anger' aimed at fellow arabs who prophesy the worst
from the american intervention, one can only imagine what they will do against the unrepentant french toadies of saddam.

iraq's monetary debt to france is in the low billions. i think the new iraqi leadership will take their sweet time re-paying it,
assuming there is a need to ever repay it. maybe the u.s. should start looking for saddam in france too ?

The anti-france crowed should keep in mind who it was that said this, it was a "U.S.-appointed governing council member". There will obviously be bias in anything he says. But still, one would have hoped that they would have given a bit more than they already are. But hey, I guess they just don't like the idea of paying for a mess the US administration made. Who knows, we will most likely never know the real reason why they're hold back on funds.

so you think that france ang germany should pay for the mess the us made in irak?
Knowing that the american administration IS the ruling authority there and that they havent forgiven france and germany not to have supported them during the war....
france and germany are willing to pay IF the UNO is to take part in the reconstruction which wont be the case thanks to bush
