Iraqi in U.S. wants Win2K OS in Arabic.

He's been in the USA for over ten years. Also, he says he's competent in Spanish and Italian so he'd like a word processor that allows him to communicate in all the above languages. I suppose he'd like a browser that is both in English and Arabic.

That's a lot of options and I hope it can be easily done.

Thanks.

Nope, you'll have to get a regional version, which are only available in the regions they were designed for.

Not sure how you're going to include the Spanish/Italian though.

you can ADD language support, so that you can use the spanish alphabet (that's a regional settings thing).

You might contact a larger MS reseller, they might be able to trade an english retail in for an arabic retail. Not sure on keys, but MSDN universal allows for downloading of all languages, if you have that access.

Disclaimer: I've never played much with the Language Settings in Windows or Office.

I believe that Microsoft OFFICE has considerable support for various language formats built in (no matter WHAT regional version you have). You can write from right to left, for instance, and change character sets. You won't get the menus in Hebrew, for instance, but you'll be able to compose a document in Hebrew.

Microsoft WINDOWS is a different matter. There's only limited support within WINDOWS for different languages. You have to buy the different language versions.

I've tried a lot...Best way is to install the local and have him learn AZERTY keyboard using MS Office. If he wants pure arabic in windows also, try Linux.

Otherwise if he has to have Arabic Windows....Order one from the MidEast although its more expensive last I checked in the Win98 days

What's he using the computer for? Just word processing and internet stuff? If so, get Linux, like Ubuntu. That's not only free, but there's a TON of different languages. And Open Office is free as well!

QFT!

I am really used to running my systems in English, but sometimes I get bored so I switch to my native language for the rest of the day for kicks and giggles, but to my surprise in Fedora Core 4 things look really nice and translate accuratly, and Openoffice.org does support Arabic so He would be set to go,I am sure Firefox would too ,so he would end up with a fully Arabic/English/Spanish /Italian supported system, if office work + internet is all he does then Linux is the way !

If he works for a corp., he can ask his company for MUI CDs that can covert a US win2k to any language version (supported by the MUI). If he wants just the Arabic input functions, then it's already available in win2k (so are Italian and Spanish).

These MUI CDs that you refer to: why can't an individual acquire a set?

MUI CDs are not available in the retail channel. Only available for corp. clients. MS set the rules.
