Baghdad, Iraq Press, September 17, 2003 ? A group of Iraqi entrepreneurs have launched a new television channel whose 24-hour broadcasts are to be carried the world over via satellite.

The Iraq Broadcasting Corporation or IBC is the first post-Saddam independent and private broadcasting company.

"The company aims especially at Iraqi viewers via programs to be beamed on both local and international levels," IBC's spokeswoman Shahla Hassan told Iraq Press.

"IBC does not associate itself with any particular party, group, religion or sect. It is open to all cultures and beliefs," she added.

Since the ouster of dictator Saddam Hussein, the Iraqis have been swamped by satellite television and a flood of newspapers.

Under Saddam Hussein, satellite dishes were banned and the few Internet cafes in the country were under the control of the security organs and users were not allowed to build their own e-mails.

Yeah, Gore's Liberal Network needs an audience;) Nah, I'd never wish that upon a recently freed country.

Good to see some Iraqis taking the entrepreneurial leap:)

I wonder, if they truly express IRaqi views then surely they will not be very favorable to Americans (based on the reaction by the majority of Iraqis over the last few months). So will we praise this event now, then mock it later when we find it does not kiss our ass, sort of like al Jazeera?

Exactly, it will be one or the other. If it independently represents the iraqi's voice, it will be shut down by the US for promoting violence, since they don't want us around.

I suspect tho there's underground funding by the US to help spread propaganda to ease the hostilities of our occupation tho.

So any pro US material that might appear would be completely fabricated?

No.

Would you support "free speech" if it continually expressed resentment towards the US occupation?

Oh it will come out if the US sponsors this station. Should the US sponser it, obviously conclusions (just or not) will be made according to its content.

Yes, I would still support free speech.

Are you going to support their free speech even if it pro American?

I'd probably assume its run/authorized by the americans and call it laughable. "Free speech" and "pro-american" alone would be a contradiction in terms unless things changed significantly for the better in the lives of the iraqis.
