The Kurdish authorities in northern Iraq have announced two deals to revamp two airports in their areas.

The first deal, by the regional government in Arbil, seat of the autonomous Kurdish region, is to repair and complete an international airport the former regime wanted to build in the city.
The second concerns the upgrading of a military airport in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya which the former regime used specifically for army operations against rebel Kurds.
Sources at the regional governments in both cities say they have got the green light from the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority to award contracts for the reconstruction and running of the two airports.
...
Sheikh said a delegation of Iraqi technicians will visit several foreign countries for the import of necessary equipment for the airport.
The regional government of Jalal Talabani in Sulaimaniya says it is about to select a contractor to ready the airport for commercial flights.
The contractor tipped for the deal is the Turkish-based AGS firm which has reportedly agreed to repair the airport at an estimated cost of 4.2 million dollars.
