Iraq Forms Govt Three Months After Elections

Damn, what a crazy balancing act. Allawi got shut out of cabinet as well.
Merely temporary, I assure you.

Now, let's see how this constitution writing goes. Ready by end of the year? Hmmm....

 Now lets get that bastard Challabi out! Those are just the two biggest that need to be shut out of the government...the rest can be worked on later!

Chalabi's appointment to the crucial oil ministry is likely to be unpopular with many Iraqis, who polls show have little love for the former exile Shi'ite once close to the Pentagon

 If I were an Iraqi, I think my government would be better off without exiles who have spent the better part of their lives out of their country, only to have returned to exploit the resources of the nation in the post-war chaos.

Unfortunately, there are many smaller fish from the exile pool in this new government. Even though Allawi himself has no share, there's Ali Abd al-Amir Allawi as the finance minister. 😉

My feelings, right now are summed up best by the comments of this BBC News reader:

"Finally some minor progress, but I am not jumping up and down with joy. Jaafari will take charge of a weak government that will have to tow the US line and will be powerless to stop the entire privatisation of the Iraqi economy to multinationals and other interests. The insurgency will probably evolve and change tactics for the next decade."

I agree. Whether or not the U.S.'s invasion of Iraq was a good or bad thing, politically he's unsuitable due to his relationship with America.

Three months is pretty good for building a government.

Bush has been trying to get people approved for five years and the libs are still whining and crying every time someone steps to the plate. Perhaps the Iraqi hating liberals need to get a lesson in civics.

Some lesson. Elections were January 30th. They still haven't named all of the ministers.

And as for "Iraqi hating liberals", I can't imagine a more vicious act of hatred than bearing false witness against a nation to justify a war which destroyed much of Iraq's infrastructure as well as murdering and maiming unknown thousands of Iraqi civilians in what amounts to a selfish attempt to control Iraq's natural resources.

And please get your information straight. The few judges the Democrats have refused to allow out of committee can't compare with all of the judges the Republicans denied a vote to under Clinton.

If I remember right, Dems are blocking something like 5% of Bush's judicial nominations. Wow, 5%. That is certainly "every time someone steps up to the plate".

You act like the government is built and up and running with no problems. Their problems with democracy dwarf our "problem" of having a vocal opposition party. Oh no, what a threat to Democracy. Apparently the civics lesson is that in a fair and just government, unless you are in power, you should just shut up and take it.

Sorry for saying so, but while I agree there is much to learn from the current Iraqi government, YOU seemed to have learned your civics from the last one.

they don't want to name all the ministers cuz they know insurgents will start picking them off one by one.

Minor progress?

A lot of individuals are not happy that they lost their biggest source of income.

I would suggest not relying entirely on the mainstream media for your information.

He's probably one those types who supposedly has a brother or friend serving in the military, they tell him everything"

Course their relative probably doesn't speak a word of Arabic, but you can be assured they know what's going on in Iraq

But...but...but..."America and the world are safer."

Yeah, that would be why less than 50% of the slate has been filled. The lowest by far in American history. Most presidents get around 85% or higher.

Not only is this a political problem, it will soon become a legal and criminal problem. With backlogs forming and fewer judges we are looking at the distinct possibility of Federal criminals running around on the streets - after all, you can only detain them for so long before trial. With growing backlogs, there is not much or a reason expending resources arresting them when you just have to let them out.

Of course, the libs do not see this problem because they, as usual, are too stupid to look more than one day ahead.

Why you insist on turning this into a flame war I don't know. I've asked the mods to lock this thread.

Hey at least its not one of the leftist blogs where you get your news from and post crap here daily. Thanks for posting the crappy propagana of the RawStory and other websites. You are a major hypocrite when you mention any source of news or information as being "biased" since you visit and post the most biased news stories and comments here.

As for Chalabi, a lot of the accusations against him were untrue. He is a good man who is misunderstood and is considered a favorite among the DOD. I personally think he is very bright and is suitable for any job in Iraq. He is great with the media and well educated.
