Just got done watching Ramsey Clark (Attorney General under Lyndon Johnson) speak out concerning the impending war against Iraq. Now I don't agree with everything that he or A.N.S.W.E.R. say or what they support, but he did have some very valid concerns.
-- We all know Saddam is a lunatic. We know that he has killed people within his country, and has tested chemical and biological weapons on them.
-- There are many reports coming out that state Iraqi people are sick and dying from a lack of food and medicine due to the embargo, however I think Saddam is getting the items, but is just not taking care of people.
-- We know he wants "weapons of mass destruction", however so does every country that exists. Would he be anymore dangerous than some of the other third world countries that have them now?
However, the one thing I worry about is this:
Yes, we will win and remove him, with or without the help of any other country. However, what happens when is gone? Are we going to spend the money to stay there and rebuild a country like we did after WWII, or will we make the same mistake we did after WWI with Germany? We can remove and then leave, but then what?
Right now IMO, we are not doing enough in Afghanistan. Yes, we have a small number of troops there still trying to find Osama and terrorists, and providing security to the U.S. backed president, but we are doing nothing to help that country. Now we will be in two horrible places at once.
If you look back at our history, we do not have a very good track record when removing foriegn leaders and replacing them with U.S. backed puppets.
I mean I support our country and it's military, but am I the only one who feels a little nervous about what is coming up? Maybe if Bush would just stop saying that he is going to do this and that and address our Congress or at least the American people. I can't think of any past president in recent memory who would not have at least done this except Nixon, and look where that got us.
What do you think?
