the first mistake that will be recorded in history, the belief that containment as a policy doesn't work.

The second mistake I think history will record is that the strategy was flawed.

The third mistake, I think was one we repeated from Vietnam, we had to create a false rationale for going in to get public support.

We failed in number four, to internationalize the effort.

I think the fifth mistake was that we underestimated the task.

The sixth mistake, and maybe the biggest one, was propping up and trusting the exiles,

The seventh problem has been the lack of planning.

The eighth problem was the insufficiency of military forces on the ground.

The ninth problem has been the ad hoc organization we threw in there.

the tenth mistake, and that's a series of bad decisions on the ground.

Sure, but seldom backed up by someone from inside "the system". :)

Zinni is a good man and has always voiced strong opinions.

Like this one..

Conversation with Zinni

We're always going to be confronted with the problem of regional rogue states -- people like Saddam Hussein or Kim Il Song -- Kim Jong Il, now -- and others who have designs to either dominate the region or to do something that's destabilizing in the region. How do we deal with these? Obviously, one option is the application of force, and to resolve it through force. And, ultimately, take it the capitol and change the regime. Or, as we did in the case of the Gulf War, at least eliminate the threat and then deal with the problems of the regime remaining.

Criticize is what retired generals do..

Thats all rhetoric...
Let me put it into context for you:p...

But yah that seems to be 10 mistakes on top of hundreds of mistakes we made... Maybe number one could be.... Electing George W. Bush as president?...

It's Clinton's fault;
Carry on;
You took his comments out of context;
Zinni! Consider the source;

Bwuahahahaha!

Zinni is such a flaming liberal. Probably shoulda' been born in Leninggrad.

But, in all seriousness, why did he stop at 10? Sheezh, this administration has given literally hundreds of writers, historians, flacks, gurus, and ne'er do wells enough material for a thousand books. This will be the most talked about American debacle after Vietnam.

Anyway, if we started a thread just about the mistakes this admiinstration made in relation to Iraq, I'm sure we could hit 50 on a bad day.
