None of those excerpts are maniacal.

"We don't agree with killing people" yet they campaign for the absolute destruction and wiping Israel and its people off the map. What about that isn't in the realm of a genocidal, maniac, lunatic, choose whatever word you want? Fine, I'll pick another one....evil.

Israel can be "wiped off the map" without chipping anyone's nail, nevermind killing anyone. It's the territory of Israel, not the people inside that territory he wants gone.

Bingo...we have someone who actually paid attention.

Ahmadinejad has stated he wants "Israel wiped off the history books". Furthermore, in the UN speech, he stated that the creation of Israel was an unlawful act.

He said nothing about killing Jews.

Unlawful or not, the damned country is there now, and it's not just a row in some database that we can delete. The Israelis are serious about being there to stay. Even if the combined military might of the ENTIRE United Nations showed up in Israel tommorrow morning to repossess that chunk of dirt, you can bet DAMN WELL that the IDF, and Israelis in general would fight to the last man, no matter how unwinnable their situation.

True, but the distinction between what he said and others claims of desired Genocide needs to be made.

Someone who doesnt know the entire speech:

"We the people of Iran ask Muslims, Jews and Christians to join together to end this Zionist regime. Israel needs to be wiped off the map and I stand here today asking the Jews in Israel to stand up with us and end the zionist. We are here with you" -.. It was something like that..

So does that sound like he wants Jews dead?

Hitler never said "hi, ima kill all the jews!!!" either. No political leader with any sort of agenda actually comes out and says what they're thinking.

Right, but I'm not discussing whether his ideas are feasible; just that he's not talking about gassing Jews.

Iran's President never talked about killing of Jews.

Of course CNN took his words out of context and put a headline "Iran's President says wipe Israel off the map" and decided to cut out the rest of his speech.

I never said he was - but it's not certain that it's not what he means, either. Only time can let us know that for sure. The question is if we want to give him that time, or act on conjecture.

Acting on conjecture would be the biggest mistake this country could make...twice.

Yeah, and several of them are in this thread.

Ahmadinejad has stated Israel must be wiped off the map. Verbatim, I'm not paraphrasing.

Sounds an awful lot like Adolf Hitler circa 1930's Germany doesn't it?

And if people continue to bury their heads in the sand history may well repeat itself.

Wiping Israel off the map doesn't mean killing Jews.

It also does not mean killing civilians inside Israel.

In that same speech, he was talking about zionist and how the people of Israel need to rise up against it. He said Muslims Jews and Christians need to come together to fight Zionism.

He is basically against any kind of Jewish state in the M.E. Because Israel is just that, a religious state.

Israel has stated the regime of Iran as barbaric and better off not existing, Iran's President said the same thing in his own wording. Yet, the media makes it appear as if he is anti-Jew.

If he was anti-Jew, the Jews in Iran would be squashed

So it just involves contacting all map makers to not include Israel?

Why would he call for Jews to stand up against the Zionist regime if he wanted them dead?

The common thread in his speeches are a calling out of the Zionist regime in Israel and the Bush administration in the US. He's talking out against the people in power, not talking about mass genocide.

It's basic high school level reading comprehension Pabby.

He called for Jews-Muslims-Christians to come together to get rid of the Zionist regime of Israel and to wipe Israel off the map.

Meaning he doesn't believe in a Jewish state in control of Palestinian territory (he believes it should all be called Palestine). Israel was created as a result of WWII.

Just like Israel does not believe in an Islamic state for Iran.

Now Im not agreeing with him. Israel is done with.

However, it is a very legit debate to say that the creation of Israel was probably not in the best interest of the region.
But like I said, Israel is established and that debate should have been made back when Israel was created.
