Iran to continue Uranium enrichment testing

So, this was reported on CNN's website today as an Iranian official announced to the west that Iran plans to move forward with continued testing of Uranium enrichment regardless of the UN consequences.

Is it me, or is this like a bragging right for middle eastern nations? "I've got a nuke, I've got a nuke"

Do they really think that Israel will sit still for anything in the productive (manufacture) stage? Have they no sense of history for the area?

I feel as though Iran and PAKISTAN are bigtime allies and if Israel tries to destroy Irans nukes then it will be a true WAR.

what exactly is Israel going to do? Iran has one of the biggest missile inventories in the region, and they have the capability to hit any Israeli city. Striking Iran with US forces right in the middle, I'm not so sure the US would be very pleased with that scenario.

The OP is referring to the way Israel did a sneak attak on Saddams Nuclear Plant in the 80's (iirc) ... they flew in and bombed it to pieces ...

Striking iran would be very convenient for our troops...that is when the ensuing war breaks out we wouldn't even have to go to them, they would come to us in iraq.

But given that we can't even handle the iraqi's resistance within iraq, its not likely we would fair too well with additional iranian militia targeting us there either. We'd also be defenseless in stopping iran from redrawing their border with iraq.

But on the bright side of things, we could always ask our staunch ally and friend israel for ground troup assistance. And so begins ww3. 🙂

but they've got facilities all over the country, and probably other ones that our intelligence doesn't know about. Israel is going to fly into Iran, which btw has superior air defences than Iraq ever did, and take out the nuke facilities, and expect no retaliation from Iran? That's really stretching it.

1EZduzit's link pretty well explains the whole thing. Iran has the right, under treaty, to enrich uranium fuel, whether or not anybody else likes it, or chooses to use that fact for their their own domestic political purposes. They've offered to accept IAEA supervision of the process, too-

"Iran has offered to accept any safeguards imposed by the United Nations agency to ensure its enrichment activities do not go beyond the 3.5 percent concentration of the uranium-235 isotope needed for its power plant."

Where's the beef? Or are we engaged in yet another Bush Admin sponsored round of demonization and fear-mongering?

Jhhnn, my post has nothing to do with US politics. If you are so inclined to discuss US politics please start a thread of your own. This goes for anyone else looking to discuss matters not relavent to the long history of the region and the potential worldwide impact it could have. Thanks.

Now, the UN means little in this day and age. It has become another League of Nations, but this is nothing more than a good ole boy system. I would much rather have Russia, China, Japan, etc., etc., etc. go buy all the Arabian oil while be keep out of the middle east. Then, I would like to hear some of these emotional towelheads like to blame Americans. Maybe they would have been happier with a Adolf running over their desert lands.

BTW, is it me or is it strange that a lot of the fanatics performing suicide bombing seem young. Why don't the elders of the tribe practice what they preech?

To prove you are capable of doing so. You obviously failed. And didn't your mother tell you about having nothing nice to say to someone then not say anything? Now, if I pick on the dumb blond ... can you get any worse? I think so, so please don't fail me a second time. Thank you.

No, actually the EU put forth a November deadline, not Bush.

This issue, along with NK, are why I wish the foreign policy debate was first rather than last. Foreign policy hasn't been made clear by either candidate as far as I can tell. I think they're both trying to puzzle these guys out - won't be easy.
