I find it odd that Iran wants to put ships along the Atlanic coast of the USA. I hope they are prepared for all the storms we get! The Atlantic coast can be a dangerous place if you are not prepared. It is one thing to put a ship in the Mediteranian or Persian Gulf, and it is another thing to cruise the Atlantic Ocean.

So if they get damage in a storm what are they going to do? Will we attack them if they stray 1 inch over our protected waters?

I cant wait for the first sinking of one of their ships whether it is their fault, they sink their own ship on purpose, or someone makes a mistake in our navy.

Logistics from the middle east to the atlantic is a long stretch.

Awesome!

President Palin won't have to work as hard now to come up with a reason to invade Iran!

This is rather amusing. Iran is free to waste resources patrolling the atlantic.

I have a feeling this will be one tour and then they'll decide it's not worth it and go home LOL.

As long as they stay within international waters they are fine. Actually we should invite them to make a port of call in New York while the Iranian navy is out and about.

As stated, there will be logistics headaches. They need to practice in the Indian and Med first.

In other news, Iran prepares to have its surface fleet transformed into a submarine fleet by the engineers of the US Navy.

Depending on time of year, Mother Nature may be alot cheaper.

Please tell me nobody here believes this. If you have any idea what it takes to keep a ship at sea....

Personally I hope they provoke us so we can turn that whole backwards country into a glass parking lot.

Yea, looks like they need to head out of the Persian Gulf, through the Suez canal, across the Mediterranean and then into the Atlantic. Not sure which countries would be OK with an Iranian naval ship making port calls.

Looking at Wiki, they don't seem to have anything above a destroyer and no attack aircraft capability. Not sure how that's going to be considered a "a powerful presence". It's like they're setting themselves up on the world stage for jokes.

Why would they need to make a port call? Ever hear of underway replenishment? All they would need is a supply ship that could pull into port to get fuel oil and food supplies.

Would be interesting watching the U.S. Coast guard pluck Iranian sailors from the Atlantic.

That's their plan; when the exhausted/near death Iranian soldiers are pulled up from the water - that is when Iran strikes!!

Also, if they will be in the Atlantic all year round,... how well does someone from the dessert deal with the cold frigid water/weather?

I am pretty sure we are out of range of any of their current ships, and they dont exactly have a re-fueling fleet either.

I honestly can't believe anyone would take this seriously.

This OK with me. It's call freedom of the seas. I support that concept.

I hope they request and are allowed port of calls on our east coast. I think they would enjoy the liberty.

Even better, maybe some of their officers and men would defect.

looks like one of the sailors is feeling up the other one.

does the iranian navy have a DADT policy, for activities that happen on board?
