this network thing is driving me nuts. Do I have to have the IPX/SPX
protocal installed for a network to work. I have tried several different ways to get a home network to work and have had no luck so will just ask one question at a time. I read Anands networking help and it is the most incomplete crap I have tried. The article quits in the middle of the process.

I have IPX/SPX installed, although there's no need for it AFAIK. I use NetBEUI for local file sharing, and TCP/IP for ICS internet sharing over my LAN. Make sure you unbind file and printer sharing from TCP/IP so you don't have a big security hole.

Thanks guys. I did not think so but on Anand's how to network it had that in the protocals. As to the security issue if I ever get my machines networked I am going to use a little Linux box beetween my and my ISP. I really dont need to share my internet connection I just want it available to each one of my machines as I can only use one at a time, using KVM switch to use each machine.

ipx/spx really is just an old school protocol from the days of early Novell Netware...and some older games used it for MP because people played at work while on their Novell LAN's!
