IPX for Windows Vista

I'm not sure the best place to post this but I'm going to post this here. I just realized that I cannot play any of the command and conquer games or starcraft over the network using Windows Vista. I'm on vacation visiting my cousins and our tradition is to play C&C or Starcraft multiplayer. The games all work fine, but without IPX I can't do multiplayer.

I tried this hack to install IPX on Vista but it doesn't work. It installs, but in the game it says no IPX available.

Any ideas? There has to be some workaround, emulation, etc.

Have you tried them in VMWare or VPC? I'm not sure if VMWare would be fast enough for them but if you can get a copy of Win98 setup in VMWare that would definitely be simpler.

I think that the people that claim that IPX (and some add NetBEUI) can be installed on Vista do not really try to use the protocols.
Both software drivers (IPX and NetBEUI) can be added artificially to Vista but Vista would really use them.

As for the games..
I.e. If you want to keep this nice family tradition keep to old computers with Win98 to use when needed.

I actually have two old P-II Laptops (battery Not working ) one with Win98 and one with Win 2000 that I keep for such purposes.

I'm not sure my laptop is powerful enough to play the games with VMWare. At least not running XP. Maybe it would work with Win98. I was really hoping for a simpler solution.

Starcraft supports TCP/IP.

He may only have the original discs and no patches. TCP/IP was added in via a patch.

What version of Starcraft are you running? The later version will also run over UDP on a local network. Read the network options carefully when setting up a multiplayer game.

Starcraft works now, but I'd really like to play Red Alert 2.

No one? BTW, does anyone know if Warcraft II BNE will work with vista network play?
