Why does my toaster need an IP! It dosen't thats why, every one gets one IP, and they go behind a NAT! You want to get rid of your NAT? Why? HMMM...
*sitting in the living room watching tv with someone, from the kitchen you hear pop*
Someone: What was that poping sound?
Me: Ohh, using IPv6 I got a new toaster that i could connect to the internet.
Someone: Why?
Me: So then i can make toast from school.
Someone: Why would you want that?
Me: Then I don't have to wait for the 30 seconds it takes to make toast...
Someone: you still had to put the toast in the toaster.
Me: Shut up <instert name here> its 1337....
Someone: Ok, well anyways back to before what was the popping sound.
Me: Oh, well it was the toaster popping, remember when XP came out and everyone was sending net send messages out?
Someone: You mean the messages that would pop up on your screen out of the blue when you were on the internet, advertising stuff?
Me: Yeah.
Someone: What does that have to do with it?
Me: Well now they do it with peoples toasters... They spell out netsend messages on your toast so up pops your bagel and written across it is, Do you want to stop these annoying toastups? Purchase Norton Personal Toaster Firewall and make these messages disappear forever...

Just my 2 cents.
Along with other reasons...
What about our firewalls whe are gonna need to get all new equipment, and stuff...

WTF does IPv6 have to do with toasters?

Yes, IPv6 has significantly more addreses available, & in theory every toaster could have an IP.

I haven't seen anyone advocating toasters with IP's (except you).

Some people want to surf the net for new and interesting toast recipes on their toaster while making toast.

If you have an IP, people can reach you more easily (if that's what you want). Say your IP is tied to your office phone, email, cell phone, voicemail, etc...

you are a complete n00b. IPV4 is dying. the world needs IPv6 or we are gonna come to a creashing standstill on the internet. NATs dont solve many of the problems IPV6 addresses (pardon the pun)

why dont you try to learn something before you start shooting your mouth off.

That's like saying I'm going to buy a super powerful computer just to surf the web. Sure, you could do that, but there's much more you can do with a super computer.

nah, its more like there is only 4 lanes on the information superhighway and they're going to need 30 in 10 years.

so icebyte...b4 you say anything in here, just do a little research b4 you blabber out stupid crap like that. IPv4 standard is limited and w/ the advent of cellphones and pda's connecting to the internet, and a household having 2-4 computers, IPv4's 32bit address won't hold for long, and IPv6 (i think it was 128 bit addres?) will change that. You've heard of Gigabit ethernet? or howabout OC-12

...yes ipv6 is needed for those... WTF a toaster gets an IP address? WTF are you talking about....IPv6 means greater possibilities for the internet and communications as a whole (as in TV (i heard we'll get 500 channels of goodness w/ this new tech), mobile phones, etc...)...i even hear of speeds of up to 10 gigabit/s in the near future...1 gigabit ethernet is just the beginning...

The transition probably won't be a pain...i hear that the new protocol can be upgraded via software, so you can use your existing hardware. A firmware upgrade is all that's needed just to unofficially support ipv6 and at least log on to the internet...

and your existing ip can be embedded to a ipv6...what a 32 bit ip can't for some reason fit inside a 128 bit addressing?....

sheesh ...

ipv6's been around for awhile now too...and you've just now heard of it?..welcome to 2 years ago
