I'm partial to OLED, and I don't think it's close. Nothing LCD does can compare to true blacks, which is especially noticeable when watching video.

Depends on the particular screen, but at the top-end, I don't think LCDs remotely compare to the best OLED screens.

OLED hands down. I own all current flagships (except the google pixel garbage) and OLED is always my choice. The screen on the LG phones look so bland and washed out in comparison. And although I usually despise the iphone, I am really looking forward to them using an OLED screen.

AMOLED exceeded LCD's a while back already.

I love the AMOLED contrast ratios but that might be part of what makes them a bit harder on my eyes than LCDs though. As of the GS6, burn-in can still be a problem for some usage patterns but I'm sure it's less and less of a problem with each iteration.

AMOLED is in a league of its own.

If you're happy with an IPS screen, don't try AMOLED.

Very true. I have an LGV20 and V10 and I can't bare to look at them being an OLED user prior.

I have my nexus 6P and V20 next to each other. Without a doubt the AMOLED screen on the 6P is superior to the IPS of the V20. Darker blacks, colors pop more and the contrast is better. That being said, I've been editing photos professionally for years on IPS screens and it's fine. The amount of phone the V20 gives makes up for some of the screen differences to me. It's all relative and subjective - trade-offs are a part of being a consumer at times.

Sounds like it's splitting hairs. Without putting them side by side, I'm sure either looks great. First world problem.
