OK HEre is what is happening. LAst night I was chilling listening to mp3's that were streaming off of my file server when the music cutout and stopped. My file-servers IP address had changed, it could not see the rest of my network. The same is true for my web-server. Both servers are running apache 2.something and MySQL. They are the only two machines in my house that spontaneously quit. (out of 8 or so) They've both reverted to a generic 169.254.x.x address, and no matter what I do they will not see the DHCP server (in my router) or ping it. The two computers can access themselves over the network but thats all. I"ve checked all cables and everything is connected properly, I"ve reset the router, rebooted computers, tried setting manual IP's to match the range of the rest of my computers.

Any Suggestions? I"m stumped, I"m not sure If I got hacked or what, but it is friggin annoying and I need this corrected ASAP.

Thanks!

Problem solved:

It turned out it wasn't software related thankfully. The two computers had one thing in common, a switch. And that switch was getting its uplink to the internet and the rest of the network through another little switch which is hooked up to the main router. So crazy story short, I plugged this switch directly into the router and Voila! DHCP a plenty.

the Ip address you got, is a dead giveaway for a DHCP problem, It is the default DHCP address Microsoft give if it cant find a DHPC server on the network
