when people say ips has better quality.

do they mean more accurate colors only, because honestly when im playing a fantasy game i dont care about accuracy wether the troll is green or green/blue hue.

but if its a total overall better image quality, then I care, some people say ips are more immersive, and tns are very washed out, so please help what exactly is ips better at.

thanks to all who help!

Discrete, step-function alike color gradient (not always) + varying gamma is TN's biggest flaw for me.
Not colors inaccuracy.

Colour accuracy and contrast which results in deeper more accurate colours. IPS also has wider viewing angles. The cost is a lot more motion blur, longer pixel changing times and cost.

IPS has less color shift. With TN panels, changing your view by even a tiny bit can cause the colors to look slightly different.

Anyways, you are never going to find the perfect monitor. None of these threads are going to lead you to the clear choice. At some point, you just have to pick one that seems to have the most advantages that you find important.

You've been agonizing over this for too long.

TN is good for the 120/144hz monitors for low motion blur (near 0 with Lightboost) and responsive gaming.

IPS is good for clear good quality colors without color shifting, and higher resolutions (1440p/1600p), but are less responsive and have more motion blur.

What you find important dictates what you want. There are clearly a lot of people with differing opinions. That won't change.

Colors are somewhat better just don't expect to be blown away. Blacks are nothing like a plasma/CRT and you're still dealing with LCD tech even if it's slightly advanced. I'll say this once more if you really want a nice upgrade go with a 1440p panel. Or if this is out of question I'd opt for a nice 1080p around 24". There are huge number of panels IPS/PLS at 1080p to choose from. I usually find a panel I'm interested in and check various reviews around the web and tally the average to what I think might be a keeper.

IPS is good for people who can't stand TN's drawbacks and don't mind IPS glow. TN panels benifit a lot from calibration.

you miss the fact that most 1440[ips-pls] are 27" ,so on a 27" 1080 images look petty course tn or not.

the troll is green or green/blue hue.

yea most games are like cartoons programed for low res 10 year old console games ported to pc.
maybe when ps4-xbox1 games lower end games look like today's fc3 ,mll, tr,ac4bf
then maybe those high end next gen. ports will be night and day on ips vs tn panels
just wondering do you watch your youtube vids at the lowest possible res. ? of coarse not you set it to the highest res. right .it's sort of what your asking , some here like high res. gaming.

I have had IPS monitors sat right next to TN monitors and I could see the difference in a game (eyefinity with two TN screens and 1 central IPS). But I could also see the difference in motion blur. Then I went to a 144Hz lightboost TN monitor, lost resolution in the process and I find it incredible for fast gaming. But I miss the IPS for working, it was less stressful on the eyes.

Take your pick and just choose, and if you can't choose get the cheapest.
