iPod's are not cross platform, correct ?

I'd like to buy an iPod for school this coming semester. The problem is that my school, which I would be transporting my work too via the iPod, uses G5's everywhere, and I use a PC personally. I don't think that iPod's are cross platform, does anyone know a way to get around this so files can be transfered between pc and Mac ?

umm ipods do work with pcs

but you are probably better off with a usb key memory. easier to use, smaller and probably faster too

I think he's saying he'd need to use the same ipod with both a PC and a Mac. I don't have one, so I don't know if that's possible...and apparently, neither does the OP.

usb drive sure as hell won't be faster then the iPod that is for sure.

In a roundabout way, yes... As I understand it they follow the universal mass storage standard, which means they're a plug & play hard drive, but if you just copy mp3s to them they won't play them - to do that you have to use Apple's proprietary & notoriously buggy iTunes software. At any rate though, a less expensive DAP will save you money, have better sound quality & have longer battery life.

The only other DAPs I'm aware of that follow the universal mass storage standard (which obviously makes using it as a hard drive and transferring mp3s to & from it from any platform a LOT easier) are the iRivers. Added bonus is they don't require proprietary software to load songs - drag & drop in any file manager or even copy at a prompt and you're good to go.

uhhh have u used itunes?

I'm not sure who u is, but why are you asking me if he's used iTunes? By the way, it's impolite to start someone's name with a lower-case letter when writing/typing it.

Of course this is pretty useless if you buy things through iTunes...

If he needs drag and drop, the iRiver H series will work fine. IMHO they are a lot better than the iPods also. They also work with macs, if you should ever need them to.

Well, other than the fact that it makes you sound dumb, yes. iTunes is crap. It's a horrible, buggy piece of software that I've tried three times and had to uninstall to eradicate the evil. I'm glad I found a winamp plugin to move my mp3's to my iPod.

im sorry, i shall keep up my grammar here on ATOT so i can sound smart.
here

back to task at hand, i agree that a cheaper DAT/USB key or maybe a PDA is a better idea. you can always check with apple.

Just use EphPod, much easier/more powerful.

And to ironcrotch: Sorry, when Apple totes it as "The Best Windows App Ever" and it takes 3x as many resources and memory as explorer.exe, I think they meant "The Most Bloated/Buggy Windows App Ever"

Even if it weren't buggy, people should be able to use it if they want to, not be given no choice. And if you don't want people to think you're 10 and/or retarded, spell out three letter words. You can do it!

Again with the concept of choice... Even if compressed music were as high quality as CD, people should be able to buy from iTunes if they don't want a high quality original on CD and see fit, not be forced into it by the fact that other ways of doing it are often incompatible with iPods.
