I bought an iPod that's new in the box from someone, and he said it doesn't come with an adapter. Does it come with a dock that charges the iPod or do you have to buy it as an accessory from a store.

the iPod comes with a USB cable and a few other accessories (dock adaptor (but no dock), headphones, iTunes CD, Apple stickers and a sleeve case), but no wall charger and no dock.

If you want a dock or charger, you're gonna have to buy them at a store.
 
It's one of apple's 'cost saving' techniques. kinda insane buy what can you do. they did it to make the ipod more widely available. if you have usb2 on your pc you could charge it through that.
