iPod Video and Nano

I have an iPod Video and a Nano.

Both cables look identical.

Can they be interchanged?
 
It fits but much more snuggly on the Nano using the Video cable.

Which makes me wonder if it should really fit at all.

Anyone have any first hand experience?
