I wanted to pick one up... but Apple's Black Friday "discount" was only about $25 off the 32GB model... not enough for me to take the plunge.

Treated myself to an iPod touch , these things rock. I'm posting from it now.

They are nice, but hope you don't need to be online for long, otherwise the batteries won't last with the Wi-Fi turned on.

yes they are... I have no complaints about mine, I only wish I had gotten a higher capacity, 8 GB isn't cutting it anymore.

Paging Chris

:D

The iPod Touch is a great device, would never own an iPhone though (plus, refuse to switch from Verizon).
Even with that, I prefer the Zune service, and with the original iPods, audio was meh. Had a Creative, and then the original Zune. the iPod Touch was always expensive, and has come down to a point where I wouldn't have qualms with the price. But I love my 32gb Zune. I don't need a lot of crazy capabilities in an MP3 player, because my phone does that. And with how much I use my MP3 player, I'd have a dead battery a lot if I had everything in one device. My phone does every awesome feature I want, my Zune HD does everything else wonderfully. If only Microsoft would stop being retarded with apps, but like I said, doubt I'd do much with them anyway. My Omnia did the basics, and now my Droid has more capabilities than I know what to do with.

For people without smartphones, the iPod Touch is THE perfect device. But I'd be hard pressed to trade away Zune (software), along with the Zune hardware (especially Zune HD).

I'm getting one for Christmas to replace my dying ipod, hopefully (it's locking up and requiring a forced reset every 800-1000 songs). looking forward to it :)

I got one a while ago and yes these rock. PDA, web, games, internet radio, dictionaries etc it's got them all. I can stream videos from my computer with an app (air video, it's totally sweet). sometimes I even use it like an iPod too!

It's awesome. The iPhone to me is meh. I fell in love with my iPod the minute the App store came out. The months before that I was like ehhh.. car music. Then it became my handheld gaming device. I wasted so much time on it.

I sold it for the 3rd gen hoping a camera would come out back in August. I do miss it. My girlfriend lets me play on her 2G sometimes. I do wish I could just buy a 3G now but the jailbreak isn't finalized. So maybe I'll just keep waiting for a 4th gen one.

I like mine, but I often find myself wishing it was an iPhone (simplify the amount of devices I have). But I can't switch from Verizon, and I can't stomach the $30 a month for data anyway.

that's where I am... well, I'm on sprint with a year left on my contract.

I love my sero plan, but one way or another, I'm probably upgrading to a smart phone after my contract is up next year (hoping by then that iphones wont be AT&T exclusive)

My wife and I both have a 16gb Ipod Touch. Love it and have never had any issues with it. That said, I'm in the same boat that I won't use an iphone until they are available on a better network. I'm on Sprint and have been since the mid 90's, knock on wood that I've never had any big issues with them, but I wouldn't leave my $25 a month SERO bill for a $100 AT&T crappy service bill.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what to do about my SERO contract. Technically, it expires in May or June and, while I love not paying very much money for the service, I also would love to have an all-in-one device that could provide me with a less frustrating browsing / user experience.

Currently I have a Moto q9c. I could upgrade to another Windows Mobile phone, but most of them really just pieces of crap.

Always have the HTC HD2, and hopefully future HD2-like devices (plus a hefty GPU) with WinMo. Rumored sometime soon is Verizon's HTC HD2-sibling (with Android instead of WinMo).
And with HTC supporting Android so heavily, I would expect future HD2-similar hardware packages with Android. The HD2 itself is quite attractive, the rumored style of the Android/Verizon version leaves me longing for the pure HD2.

However, I am in love with my Moto Droid.

Android devices are all over, and without looking I am sure there are some very capable Music apps (besides streaming music like Pandora/Last.fm, talking actual media players) in the Market. If you can handle the stock app, that works too.

I won't use my Droid for actual music (though kickass it comes with a 3.5mm port instead of the usual phone size, 2.5mm?), will keep using a standalone MP3 player (Zune HD, "just right" size in terms of dimensions), and hooked on the Zune PC software/service so cannot see myself abandoning Zune. Hoping Microsoft is serious about making Zune more of a service and not just a specific device. I know Zune service is coming to WinMo 7, would love to see it come to Android because I love Android.

Next phone, my Dream phone is going to be on Verizon, 4G (LTE), Android (maybe WinMo 7 will be up to the challenging... any OS... in terms of actual OS quality), with Zune services, and crazy long battery life. I can dream yes? :)

First off, welcome to 2007 :)

That said, the iPod Touch seems more like a mini computer than an MP3 player to me. Sure, checking your e-mail over WiFi and playing games is cool and all, but the lack of physical buttons on the thing make it a pain in the ass to change songs while running or driving. I still prefer my old iPod Photo for those activities.

I just got a Zune HD and I love it. I can't stand iTunes and I wanted a more music-centric device than the iPod touch. In a year or so I'll get a Droid and then I can get with the app crowd.

Also, Microsoft really stepped up their game with the Zune HD. People have written off WinMo but there's a strong chance they're finally going to get it right with the next cycle.

LOL, I love the "I love the iPod Touch, but hate the iPhone" comments....

I was a confirmed Apple hater till the damn iPhone came out.

Now, I've bought a crapload of iPhones, am typing this using a BT Apple keyboard paired with a W7 HTPC as well as using a Magic Mouse on it, bought the kid a MacBook too...

And I have a shitload of Apple stock :WMK:

I like a device that lets me multitask, option to have a spare battery, expandable memory. and hardware keyboard. Yes the apps are cool but too many negatives for me.

I got an iTouch for my gf's Christmas last year (an 16GB 1st gen) and upgraded to a 32GB personalized 3rd gen a few weeks ago so I got the 16GB back. It's a slick unit and its functionality is FAR better than my WinMo 6.5 phone (HTC Touch Pro).

BUT I can't stand the lack of multiple apps. It's really sometimes a complete deal breaker and I didn't realise how much I used it. It's a really slick device, but just like my smart phone its only good in certain areas.

Also unfortunately its sound signature is awful compared to my old Sansa e260 :(

So, have you ever used the keyboard on an iPod Touch or an iPhone? It's really not that bad. How many MP3 players have a keyboard?

As far as the battery, there are multiple solutions for sleeved batteries, charger cords, USB cords, 12V cords to work around the battery issue, and if you want a lot of memory, buy a iPhone or Touch with a lot of memory in the first place...

Yes I've used the iPhone many times. I don't like virtual keyboards at all and there's a reason why they make things to simulate real keyboards on a iPhone cus it's superior. Sorry but paying all that extra money for "extended" battery life and making the phone bigger is dumb to me. Just opening it up and throwing in a new battery is easier and cheaper. If you think the iPhone or Touch have a lot of memory in them then hey more power to you but it's tiny for MP3's and videos and apps. Also once you've done true multitasking you never want to go back.
