does this exist, or is there an app that can do it? I'm really considering getting an ipod touch now as a PDA given I refuse to pay for a data plan just to have a smart phone. But I'm a little worried if it gets jacked or if I lose it.

Ideally, it'd be something like if I don't enter in a password/phrase in daily, it'd go boom.

You can make it require a passcode to use it each time, but to the best of my knowledge it's not a self destruct like you see on blackberries.

it has a feature where if it's passcode protected and the incorrect code is entered 10 times it will format itself. I'm not sure if one is able to get around this with some sort of jailbreak type utility. I don't know of any enter a code daily or it'll go boom programs lol. The 10 passcode format seems pretty secure, with a 4 digit code the likely hood of somebody figuring it out is slim to none.

Unless someone is messing around with you and tries 10 times on purpose and then you get all your data erased.

heh, it's a personal/work device, it's merely a precaution. Anyone know if you can reduce the 10 tries to say 5? And is it w/in a certain time period? like 10 tries w/in 5 minutes? actually, it'd be kinda nice if this was required to sync too, heh

Which is why you back things up. I haven't used one, but I'm sure there's gotta be a way to sync it using just the internet so that any changes can be reflected almost immediately in your backups, right? Maybe with MobileMe or whatever it is.

yeah, but that doesn't work w/ an ipod touch =) but that's not my concern, i'd be syncing daily anyway... I just wanted something to kick in if it got stolen or if I lost it.
