Mac OS Mobile is enough, but iPhone OS 3.0 isn't enough of a distinction for you?

Again, you have a phone. The update is free for iPhone users.

Yes, because besides the iPhone and iPod touch, there are many other devices using the iphone os. In fact, apple licenses the iphone OS to third parties...oh...wait...they don't.

The touch is essentially an iphone, minus the phone. It hardly warrants there being a charge for the firmware. It's also funny that you are gonna sit there and side with Apple instead...it's like you WANT it to cost money.

Again, you are missing the point. No one WANTS to pay for the firmware, but that's how it's being distributed. You have a perfectly functioning device when you bought it. That hasn't changed with the release of 3.0. It just simply adds functionality, for a price. Similar to how an upgrade to software on your computer would cost you money.

I fail to see how you aren't understanding. It's like you DON'T WANT to understand. 😉

You said if they called it "Mac OS Mobile" it'd be enough for some reason. Why? Why isn't iPhone OS enough? 😕

You could also say that iPhone users are paying for upgrades as part of their service contracts which they have to pay for years after buying the device.

Push won't exactly work well over Wifi unless my Touch is on and in use, and since I have a 1g Touch A2DP isn't happening. I already have C+P with Clippy, so I suppose 3.0 offers nothing of interest to me. Sucks because I'd like to add some new features to it. I will want a 3g Touch when they come out, but not until they're jailbroken so that's going to probably be a looong time after it comes out. if the 2G Touch was any indication.

When has Microsoft or palm ever released an updated OS for free? Or for that matter, an updated OS that even ran on the older hardware?

You see, a Windows CE device makes the distinction that it is a device running a third party OS, which is an independent product. The iPhone/Touch are both marketed as self-contained products which have their own custom OS.

Maybe I could see sense in that if they were running "Mac OS Mobile" or something to that effect, but they are never presented like that. For that reason, the firmware update should be considered customer support and be included free.

I use a Blackberry and I recently updated to the newest RIM OS...for free, straight from RIM's website. If I was in the situation of an Touch owner who was faced with $10 charge for UPDATING the firmware, you can bet I'd be getting that shit from TBP for free.
Quit calling it a firmware update when it's not. It's an OS upgrade. Every commercial OS vendor charges for major version upgrades.

Quit comparing the device to a phone when it's not.

And if you're downloading the software from BT regardless, what exactly are you whining about?
