I recently bought my wife an apple IPOD touch for her birthday, this April. It did not come pre-loaded with the January software update. Apple's website says it is 19.99.

I can understand paying for it if I purchased the Ipod before January (albeit barely). However, I purchased mine from target in April assuming it would have all of the current software.

Will Apple still charge me for the update, if not who can I contact to get the update for free?

Thanks,

Veramocor

Most stores lowered the price of the models without the extra software $20 to make up for the difference in price. I know BestBuy did, as well as some other stores. Sounds like your target had some old stock but they are usually pretty good with returns so I would try that route if contacting apple directly doesn't pan out.

I agree with contacting Apple. Be courteous and friendly and things will likely go your way.
