ipod Touch/iphone compatability w/ older accessories

Ive got a Altec Lansing IM3 ipod dock which I use w/ my old 3g 10gb ipod to listen to tunes at work. Ive been looking to update the ipod to a touch or possibly a 16gb iphone when I change my phone plan sometime this spring. I've heard that the touch/iphone use a different pin out that previoius ipods. Would I still be able to use my IM3 to play/charge a Touch or iphone? If not, are there any comparable docks that charge/play with the touch/iphone that have similar specs (small, remote control, charges, can run off batteries, <~$100)?

I am just running into this problem, I have an older charger, and a new 4th generation Ipod nano, it won't charge it, here is an article to support this 'rumor' I guess we are SOL.
