I recently downloaded the iOS Netflix app to my 3rd generation (32 GB) iPod touch, not that I expected to get a lot of use out of it, until...
...until I was doing some research on my iPod touch and realized that it supports video playback on a TV with the proper cable. At that moment, I decided that my iPod touch would make a perfect portable Netflix-enabled device for my bedroom TV, the old TV in the garage, and any other non-HD TV.
I bought the proper cable, got it home, hooked it up, and it turns out that the Netflix app itself is *blocking me. It does support video out on some devices, but it does not support video out on the gen 3 and older iPod touch.
I don't understand why not. I get a great picture on the TV with podcast videos and the YouTube app. I know my device and the cable function properly, but Netflix does not. (It plays only the audio on the TV speakers, but the picture plays only on the iTouch screen.)
I paid a fair sum of money for the cable, so I'd really like to make it work with Netflix if I can.
Is there a 3rd party app? Maybe an "unauthorized fix?"
If there's a "jailbreaking your iTouch for dummies" tutorial out there, and there's little risk of damage (ie, "bricking" it), I'd be willing to try that, if necessary.
Can anybody think of a way to make this work?
