Ipod touch 2G wont connect to wireless after SSID is turned off.

Just got a 2nd generation Ipod 16GB. I can get it to connect to my network with MAC filters, WAP2 etc. Normally I run with my SSID broadcast turned off. When broadcast is on, the Ipod connects no problem. When I turn the SSID broadcast off, the ipod no longer connects, and the connection disappears from the network settings.

Does anyone know how to make an Ipod 2G connect to a network with the SSID hidden, and also connect to a network automatically?

Thanks!

From my experience with a couple iphones, i could NOT get any of them to connect to hidden networks.

But but but.... [Fanboi] Windows sucks, Macs rule[/fanboi]

I honestly don't understand how apple can have such a great UI and then totally fail at basic things like cut and paste and connecting to hidden networks on Wifi when you type all of the friggin information in anyways.

Windows stuff may not be as sexy, but at least it friggin works.

Grr... after reading on teh int4rw3b about my problem, it appears it's quite common with no solutions :(

It's neat to see someone else saying one of the things that I think occasionally about my iPhone. They got so much right, how come they forgot some things that seem really obvious.

Just wanted to mention that I too have the same problem with the iPod touch (1G, 16gb) not working with hidden networks.

It's like buying a sports car that comes with no mirrors. Now, for 95% of driving you don't need mirrors, but for stuff such as changing lanes or backing up, it makes things a ton easier.

I just don't understand Apples arrogance at how their products are so superior down to every detail and they're missing basic functionality that has been in the PC industry for decades (cut and paste) or 7-10 years (wireless connect to hidden SSID.)

I connect to the hidden network at work all the time. The trick I found is that you have to type it exactly like it's name is. So if it uses Caps, you have to use caps. I fooled with the damn thing for 30 minutes before I realized our network was all caps and that's the only way it would connect to it! Otherwise, it wouldn't find it.

I typed it in exactly case sensitive and it wouldn't work. Do they use WEP or WPA?

On the plus side of the equation, I got a modified version for installing itunes on my x64 XP computer, so now I can finally sync the damned thing :)

Caps matter. The SSID (whether public or not) is part of the password hash for WPA/WPA2.

I use WPA2 Enterprise to connect to the non-broadcast network at work. I just knew the name of our network, but I didn't know it was all CAPS at the time..so it took me forever to figure out how to connect..lol.

Odd... I was able to get my iPhone 3G to connect to the hidden WiFi network at the office. All I needed to do was enter the SSID name manually and WEP password, and I'm all set.

I don't think the issue is that it will not connect...my Touch will connect to a hidden WiFi network when configured but it will not subsequently re-connect using the auto-connect feature after it has been configured. Major pain in the tush to have to re-enter the wireless information. Interesting thing is, that the network information for the WiFi network with hidden SSID is there. I have a static IP address assigned to my device for that network and that information is there once I type the hidden SSID and WPA password.

This presents a problem on my corporate network as we do not broadcast the SSID, so every time I turn my Touch off or it times out, I must re-enter the WiFi info.

I for one have never needed to be able to connect to a hidden network, therefore, I don't see why anyone would need this. It's a pointless feature.

Just kidding.
