i'm thinking of getting one for when i workout & running.

the thing is that. i hate to use softwares. Since the ipod shuffle is a usb key..

can i just plug it in and then windows recognize it as a drive and then i can just drag mp3 files into the drive?

or do i have to use their specialized software? does anyone know?

also, can i use it as a drive to store files?

Look at creative MuVo.

as far as i know you're going to need itunes or that winamp plugin to put songs onto your ipod shuffle. you can't just drag and drop. and yeah, you can use it to store files. you can set how much space you want to set aside for files.

what i'm looking for is..

something light & small so that i can use it on my workout & running.

it has to be a USB key mp3 player because i plan on storing files also.

FM & voice recorder is nice.

so far, i found the iPod shuffle fits the description & the price is very hard to beat.

I just wasn't sure about the software thing. now that i know you can't just drag and drop mp3 into it...i'm not going to get it.

what do you suggest i get?

no you can't. You must use a software like itunes to load music into it.

yes you can, you can divide the space for instance 512mb for music and 512 mb for data storage.

software is nice. but what if i don't have my computer with me and i'm using someone else's computer? i just want to have the ability to just drag and drop mp3 into it and let it play.

don't have to bother with software because i might not always using my own personal computer.

ipod shuffle doesn't have FM & voice recorder capabilities. i love my shuffle its perfect for the gym, but sounds like you might want to look at the muvo

WTF we actually have to divide the space in advance for music vs data? Never needed to do that with the regular iPods...

i believe with the muvo you can just drag and drop mp3 files. it also uses a cable interface instead of a direct usb connection

True, but let's compare apples to apples. A 1gb iPod Shuffle costs $149

the pricegrabber price for the TX averages ~$190. For $40 more you get:

1. A screen. This makes a BIG difference
2. FM tuner
3. Voice recorder (Shuffle mught have this, call me on it if I'm wrong)
4. Real, straight up, non proprietary USB pendrive interface.

Holy shlt, $150.00! They keep throwing around that $99.00 price, and I never thought to check the price for the 1GB unit. Fvck that, no competition what-so-ever!

Creative Muvo > Ipod Shuffle.

Ipod (HD based one) > Creative Zen Touch (HD based)

Simple as that.

When you have a gig of music, trust me, it will make a difference. My muvo is the oldest one, and is only 64MB (got it for ~40 bucks) and the lack of a screen makes it a PITA.

Plus, @ $99 for 512 mb, you're paying for the apple name.

Featureset, price, shuffle does not benefit from the nice iPod interface

and on the 512mb side, the MuVo is even more attractive, with a mere $18 price difference for all the other benefitts. link
