iPod questions

My friend is coming to visit me this weekend and she's bringing her iPod. I wanna download some music on to it for her, but I don't think she's got any of the proper cables. Does it use just a standard USB cable or something specific to iPod? Also, what software might I need and where can I download it? Finally, do all iPods work with PCs? Thanks!

Which iPod does she have? There are three generations. The first two are firewire only, the latest generation can utilize both firewire and USB2.0 (but to use the latter you must purchase a cable from Apple)

If she brought the cable that came with her iPod, you should be able to use it as long as you have a firewire card.

Also, if she's got a Mac-formatted iPod, you must use translation software such as MacOpener or MacDrive. Otherwise, a PC-formatted iPod will be detected as soon as you plug it in. I would recommend using EphPod 2.70a (you'll have to hunt around for it) as your software to transfer music between your computer and the iPod.
