iPod question

My brother in law has asked for a 60GB iPod this Christmas.

I don't know much about the iPod line of products. Where does the iPod Color fit into the lineup, and is there any compelling reason to buy/not buy this product over the other models?

All current iPods (5th Gen) can play video/photo. This doesn't include the Nano which can only do photos.
