Can you hook an ipod up to a home stereo amp and get quality stereo sound out of it? I know you can hook it up to a computer and obviously there are the headsets and the Bose SoundDock but I don't see anything about hooking it up to a hi-fi stereo system.

My sister's husband has an ipod and the Bose SoundDock and while it sounds decent I am a rabid anti-Bose nut and can't see spending another $300 for a mediocre speaker when I have a HT system that will blow away any Blose system.

what i dont understand is why cant people just use the ipod when they're outside? inside just use your stinking computer speakers! or hook up your computer sound card to your stereo setup!

Hook it directly to the amp, the amp shouldn't send power back to the ipod, so no worries there. and the quality of sound depends on the bit rate at which the file was recorded. Hence, higher bit rate, better sound.

You want to use the dock's lineout, or if you don't have the dock, a 3rd party adapter that has a line-out. The SiK Din is a very popular line-out adapter for portable audiophile enthusiasist for connecting the iPod to a portable amp, or headphone amp. The SiK Din outputs to a mini-plug.

My stereo blows away my computer speakers though and I don't really want a computer in my familyroom anyway.

Thanks Baked, I'll check into that. :)
