Ipod Owners, how useful is the dock?

Im set on getting an iPod, & don't really want a large hard drive. In this case, size does not matter :Q😉 . I then notice you only get the dock & wired remote with the 20G+ models. Id rather not get the 20GB as 10GB is plenty for me, but how useful is the dock?

Thinking about getting the 10GB from apple @ ed. price($270)...right now they are offering free laser engraving. Though, I don't know what I would say & probably regret
it later. 🙁

i have the 15gb with the dock and i like it. i've never charged my ipod without it being on it's dock.

Oh, didn't know 15GB ones had the dock...no body seems to carry those any more.

I think you get a case too... the dock is semi-useful. It had a line out so you can hook them up to your speakers and play music. Otherwise the dock isn't of much use, it just looks cool.

I got a 15 with the dock. That's mainly how I charge it. I also use the USB/FW cable, and I charge it during class.

I have no dock with mine and I'v never felt that I needed one. Plugging in a cable isn't particularly difficult.

I like just dropping it in the dock, but its nothing I couldn't do without the cable. I don't use the lineout feature. I do have a computer right next to it so why put wear on the ipod? I'd still buy the 20 gig and then ebay the remote and dock to make back some of your money. If you want to sell it in the future it will be worth more, you'll be glad you have it when your ipod makes you get a bunch more music, and if nothing else its an extra 10 gigs on a portable HD.

You can also get a firewire car charger for something like $12 from Apple, in case that's convenient.

I've got a 15 gig and I always use my dock when charging. If nothing else it keeps it off my desk where it might get something dropped on it or something 😛 The case is pretty decent I suppose. I can't stand the wired remote though and never use it. The clip on it is essentially useless. I say go with the 15 gig if you don't need the 30.

I can get a 10gb sealed & buy all the accessories I need separate for around ~300, or i can buy a used 15 gig for $300. But im worried people are just selling refurbs that they got. Any way to til if its a refurb? Does apple sell them with boxes & all original accessories?

dock just makes it look nice while it's sitting there... and the cable would keep falling behind the table if it wasn't for the dock 😛 but in all reality, i didn't really need it. I've found that the remote is pretty useless for me.. i thought i would use it more. it just makes the cord annoyingly long. but that's me.

i have an iskin case so i don't like peeling it off to use the dock. i basicly use the dock to keep the wire from falling when my ipod isn't hooked up. then i just unplug the dock and plug in my ipod. the slip case that comes with the higher end models is nice but i much prefer the iskin. and the remote is usefull to some people but again the iskin makes it so easy to get to your ipod that the remote becomes inconvenient. so i'd look for a good deal on a 10gig 3rd generation and pass on all the rest.

Ya, I can get a 10gb for $270, hard to make deals when dell stopped carrying the 10 & 15 models.
