iPod not being detected by iTunes

So I got a used iPod. It works fine.

When I plug it into the computer, the computer can detect it no problem. But iTunes says that there is no iPod connected (in the preferences -> iPod option). Am I missing some software? Shouldn't they just be able to detect each other?

I'm just trying to make sure I haven't forgotten to do anything.

Thanks.

only thing i can think of is to make sure the ipod software and itunes software are both the latest versions. problems can occur when they are not. Do this to at least rule it out.

Both the iPod software and the iTunes software are updated (I just double-checked).

The iPod says it's a Windows iPod. I also restored the iPod to factory settings.

I think it might be a USB issue. I have to plug it in through a USB hub so I'm wondering if that is throwing something off.

i heard that usb hubs are different than straight/directly plugging it into the computer. try that and see if it works.

I tried going straight into the computer with no luck. Anapod is not detecting anything either.

So to summarize:
computer detects it (safely remove hardware icon pops up)
ipod software detects it (I restored it to factory settings already)

itunes does not detect it
anapod does not detect it

Try unplugging all other unnecessary USB devices and see if you still have trouble. I had a similar issue when trying to update my PSP software after getting a Dell monitor w/ a built in USB hub. I think too many USB devices lead to a lot of potential conflict.
