I have an ipod nano 4th gen, and i am thinking about upgrading to ipod touch 4th gen for my birthday.

My brother has an ipod touch 3rd gen and i have messed around with it and i love it. It has very good games, call of duty, doodle jump, mini gore, and lots more.

The music sounds a little bit more crisp, and the album art looks amazing on that big screen. Navigation is a lot better in my opinion vs the click wheel.

Also having the internet in your pocket is truly amazing. I have a psp and the internet on it vs the ipod touch is horrible. Ipod touch loads pages fast, and is easier to get around.

Videos look very nice on ipod touch. (i have watched the hangover on it)

I would mostly be using the ipod touch for at home, and on bus rides to basketball games (can take hours)

Ok so is it worth upgrading from ipod nano 4th gen to ipod touch 3rd gen?

nano battery life vs touch?

with a case and screen protector will the itouch be protected longer?

thank you very much, I am mostly looking for answers from people who have an ipod nano and ipod touch, or people with ipod nano or ipod touch. :)

4th gen doesn't exist, currently you can get 3rd gen 32gb or 64gb, or an 8gb model which is 2nd gen.

IMO, yes.

I don't know about the Nano, but the answer for the Touch is, 'it depends'. Battery life is pretty good for only music (around 18-25 hours, depending how much time you spend with the screen running), but not so good for video (5-8 hours) or prolonged Wifi use (3-6 hours).

Yeah but I personally run without a protector. The back scratches easily but the screen seems to be fairly hardy.

The 8gb does not have the upgraded CPU or voice recognition and also does not come with headphones that have a microphone. I actually bought the 8gb model recently as my first Touch but found that the capacity was not enough for me so I exchanged it for the 32gb. Honestly, the change in CPU speed made no noticeable difference to me and that voice recognition stuff is worthless. If 8gb is enough capacity then it's a fine device, don't let the extremely minor 3rd gen upgrade sway you.

Ok thank you, I think 8gb will probally be enough for music, but apps are going to end up taking a huge chunk from my memory... with videos I will probally just have some music videos.

It is a relief to hear that there is no noticeable difference of speeds, because thats something I would like. And that voice stuff i would never use, so I don't care about that. 32gb would be nice, but I could never afford it.

I think I will just get the 8gb, and hope it has enough memory.

Depends on how much music you have. I have all mine encoded at 320kbps but I only have a "small" collection of 246 songs. Apps is all dependent on size. Some games are pretty big, most are small though. Video is the kicker as it takes up a huge chunk of space. I'd suggest getting the 16gb version for heavy video use.

If you need a cell phone, the iPhone is also something else to consider. Virtually the same as the iTouch but adds mobile internet. My iPhone is probably the best/most useful gadget I've ever bought.

Just a quick note, you can't buy the 16gb version new anymore. Since the 3rd gen the only available units are 8gb 2nd gen and 32/64gb 3rd gen. You could probably find a 16gb 2nd gen on the used market.

My music is all on the default kbps I think... and my collection of music is about 400 songs. I add songs that i like every now and then when I get a new cd or hear something I like on the radio.

But I will be getting some pretty hefty apps such as FPS and good Racing apps. For sure I will be getting Facebook app, Call of duty world at war zombies app, NOVA app, Eliminate app, mini gore app, and some good RPG's.They keep coming out with more and more apps, and they are getting bigger and bigger...

I will not put many photos on my ipod touch, not really any point...

By the way I have a blackberry curve phone and I am very satisfied and will not be needing an iphone. Thank you anyway for suggesting it!

That sounds pretty great, but not to sure how i'd like refurbished...

apple refurb is always spectacular though for me. new casing, new battery, same accessories, basically its brand new but for a cheaper price. however, i understand some people are weary of refurb, so its np :)
