iPod nano or Sandisk Sansa e260

Hi,

I recently purchased an ipod nano (4GB lime green) and I am disappointed. The nano does not act as a storage device and does not show up in My Computer. I can only see the ipod nano in iTunes and nothing else.

I am thinking of tacking it back and getting a Sandisk Sansa e260 with 4GB, the ability to play movies, an fm tuner, and the ability to show up as a storage device.

Any thoughts or ideas? Has anyone tried the Sandisk Sansa e200 series?

What upsets me is that in Won XP when I go into My Computer, and look under devices with removable storage, I breifly see the iPod nano when I plug it in or eject it from iTunes. It seems that I can not use it as a removable storage device to transfer files to and from like a portable flash drive... that really irks me 🙁

I had this same decision of either going for a Nano or the Sandisk. But the Sandisk won since it could do more, alot more than the Nano can, though the Nano's earplugs are much more comfortable and sounds better than the Sandisk's.
Yes, the Sandisk can act as a storage device, you can either choose MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) or MSC (Mass Storage Compliant) within the Sandisk. I wouldn't want to watch movies on the Sandisk however, unless you want to chop your videos into 30+ 10MB pieces, watching TV shows is alot more suited IMO, I uploaded an episode of Friends and it played perfectly, but you'll still need to convert it to .mov with the included converter application. To really get this thing going, get a pair of Shure earplugs and a 1GB MicroSD for additional storage and this will beat the Nano! The liquid-metal casing is one though shell as well, I have accidentally dropped my Sandisk a couple of times on hard surfaces, and it barely even made a scratch on its back casing, the front is also very durable, since the LCD is covered with a thick layer of plastic? lol. and with the lastest firmware upgrade, you can now create your own custom EQ settings, which wasn't available before.
Well enough of me jabbering, good luck!

yes, sansa does way more than ipod, cheaper, expandable too, and best of all you dont have to use itune crap, but you do have to use a very simple program to convert video files though. and another downside is it's much thicker than ipod. sansa earphone is crap, but so is ipod earphone, dont know why so many keep using it, guess it's more of status symbol than comfort and sound quality.

Well, when compared to earphones the Ipod's does feel alot better than the Sansa's, but thats why I recommended some Shure earplugs, does things are SNAPS!~! And the thickness is not all that bad, its still small to fit anywhere that has pockets 🙂

I can make little sense out of your post, but I wouldn't recommend putting Shure IEMs in your pocket, unless you want little pocket monsters all over your ear canal.

I don't have a Sansa but Newegg is selling the e280 (8GB) for only $190. Features a USER REPLACEABLE battery and has a slot for microSD cards which adds up to 2 additional GB to total capacity.
What's not to love?

I have a 2GB Nano and I really want to sell if for a Sansa.
The only thing I can think of that the iPod has is the 3rd party accessories. If you need something for an iPod there are a million accessories. Players from Creative Labs and Sandisk just don't have that kind of support.

It's a start. Doesn't look like the dock is widely available yet.

Well, I went with the Sansa e260. My girlfriend also decided to take back her iPod Nano and get the same Sansa. The changeable battery for $20, FM tuner, Micro SD slot, ability to watch some movies/videos (really great for kids), mass storage device capability, all outweighed the nano.

Heck it was $60 cheaper than the final price of the nano after taxes, and with the nano the fm tuner is another $60... so that would be an extra $120 just to have a nano and fm capabilities. Sansa 2 iPod -1
