ipod (nano) freezes my pc

Guys, When I connect my 4GB nano to any USB port on my home PC, and then click on any other program such as Firefox/Word/whatever, it freezes up the PC. If I disconnect the nano, the pc frees up again. I have an ASUS A8N-E mobo, dual core AMD 3800, 2gb memory, 250gb Western Digital HD, two DVD burners, running XP Pro....

The nano works just fine on my work PC, so it's definitely not the nano.

So far I've tried, on the home pc:

1. Replacing the cable that connects the nano to USB port.
2. Connecting the nano to different USB ports.
3. Resetting the nano, re-installing iTunes.
4. Unplugging a working device from a USB port and plugging the nano there.
5. Plugging a thumb drive in place of the nano to see if the USB port is fine - and it is.

I really need to get this working. Any tips are appreciated 🙂

figured it out. there are supposedly only two "high powered" usb ports on my pc - the ones on the mobo. the other ports - 6 of them - are not "high powered" and nano/ipod won't work on them. just switched the nano to the right port and it connected instantly and is blazing fast. *whew*
