The gold one is no longer available on the Apple web site, and since ecost has a gold one listed, I would assume it's the older ones.

Picked up one of these last night from Amazon for 179 w free shipping. It is the old model but I'm not concerned with the shorter battery life as I'm only going ot use this to play MP3's with my Alpine head unit. The adapter for the Alpine unit keeps it charged anyway.
