ipod mini or creative muvo 2???

According to Amazon muvo owners, the hard drive in it has a high failure rate, so be sure to get a 1-year extended warranty.

Also, 15 GB regular iPods have had some decent prices lately, RossMAN's GottaDeal.com just had a link for 15% off them at Target (= $255).

ya, thats why i want a muvo2 or ipod mini. no moving parts. shouldn't fail too often.

No, both muvo2 and ipod mini use "microdrive" hard drives in a compact flash form factor. They are hard drives, not solid state.

I know how tough it was when my cousin tried getting a ipod mini for his sister. I went with him shopping all around ny, not a single store had them in stock. Plus, there were mile long waiting lists in stores that even offered them.
 
I got an ipod a little while ago, really liked the streamline buttonless case but was disappointed with it's operation. It ended up all being in the itunes software. It really sucked. If you use an ipod get a prog called Anapod. Makes the ipod perfect

iPod. It's the in thing to have - the rest is just a hard drive. 🙂
 
I would go for the IPOD mini ... but for the bus trips.

Working out - maybe if you stick to a gym environment and are somewhat careful not to drop a wheel (that's a 45lb weight in gym-speak) on your shiny IPOD mini but not running!

If you want to do those type of things get solid state.

Would you want to take your hard drive for a run? Hmmmnnnn? Go hiking maybe? Not likely. Unless you're made of money ... of which what the hell. Get the IPOD and take it bungy jumping ... and running ... and ultimate ... and windsurfing ...

I've never heard of anyone reporting issues with running with an iPod. What issues have you heard of?

Try dropping one. I can't tell you how many times I've inadvertently dropped my Nomad while running and it still works like a champ. If it had been hard drive based it would have been dead years ago. I would never ever run with a hard drive based MP3 player which is why both the models I recommended above are flash based.
 
Last I heard there were some nasty problems with the iPod mini's earphone jack socket. Apparently the socket was badly designed and loosened off easily from the main circuit board, resulting in severely crackling audio (or no audio at all). Not sure if it is still an issue though.

I don't know how other ipodminis have fared, but I run with my ipod mini 3 times a week without problems. Ironically, I have also dropped my ipod mini on a 45lb weight! (I woudln't recommend dropping a 45lb weight on the ipod mini tho =0P)

I've persued threads at rec.running on usenet and ipodlounge.com and - to be fair - it would seem that the mini has been more active-lifestyle friendly compared to the original IPOD.

It would seem that this is mainly attributed to it's small size and the fact that the drive mechanism is based on the Microdrive which seems to have more shock tolerance in such a small form factor.

However, my opinion still stands in that if you are looking for something for an active lifestyle one should choose something solidstate like a flash-based player instead of something with moving parts - like a miniature hard drive - ... but I suppose that an IPOD mini would be a fine choice if you had to buy just one device to be a jack of all trades.

Considering the price for a decent 128mb flash player I don't think that it would be a stretch to buy one of those and a mini to balance out your lifestyle.

Since the mini is still relatively fresh and new it will be a little while before drives start failing or exhibiting shock-related problems IMO ... and I hate to have spent a pretty penny on something that ends up being a paperweight.

But it's not my nickel ... and the mini looks like a heck of a product so what the hell. Go for it.
