actually it's going to be $249 US , which is a huge dissappointment since I don't think it will come with a dock.

It'll comes with a dock, an arm band, belt clip and USB2 + Firewire cables.

EDIT, nevermind, misread that...the dock is an option, so is the arm band

Yeah, I just saw that somewhere else. If true that's a downer. A $199 4 GB iPod would have been sweet. OTOH, with all the accessories, that $249 would be worth it.

Still too expensive. Apple has already saturated the high end. If they wanted to broaden their market and increase sales, they needed to release something in the $100-150 range. Maybe a 1 or 2GB version. Not everyone needs 15+GB of space, and almost no one needs that much for just MP3's.

So how long does the non-replacable battery last on this one? 12 months?

Why buy one of those small ugly ones when for $50.00 bucks you can have more than 3x the storage? That's a big dissapointment...I was hoping for a $150.00 1 or 2GB version, not 4GB for $50 less than the cost of 15GB.

blackinches has heard it craps out at 18 months.

Will you people get off this stupid battery thing? One guy's iPod battery dies after 18 months...so I guess that means everyone's iPod battery dies after 18 months huh?

Back on topic...

I'm really dissapointed by their price. I can't see this doing as well as apple hopes it will. Colors and a smaller size probably won't justify the $50 for 11 more GB of storage. It would make more sense had apple kept the 10GB iPod, but still...the price is staggeringly high. It would have worked at $200...but I can't see it working at $249

When I first heard news of a new iPod I was a little pissed since I bought one of the new 15gb ones. I really like it, but I thought this new one would be a lot cheaper, under $150 atleast. $250 is only $50 cheaper than mine, plus mine came with a dock.

Yeah, but this is apple. You dont get what you pay for. Its like buying a tommy hil shirt. You buy it for the name, and it brings status.

Ive been trying to convince my roomate for the last couple of days not to get the 20gb ipod for 400 bucks. He doesnt even have close to 20gb of mp3s. But it comes with the dock. Efforts to explain to him that you can buy the dock separately have thus far failed. Even showing him the archos av320 which is just a little thicker than the ipod, but plays MOVIES, barely made him flinch. He tries to outwardly deny it, but its clear to everyone that its strictly a buy for the name.

While I think they'll sell at $249, I think $199 would have been the sweet spot. It'd sell like hotcakes at $199.

OTOH, I lust after the tiny silver iPod mini.

The whole mini-ipod website has a "branded" approach, giving it a cool thumbs up ...

Yeah, but most of the other ones suck. The iPod rules if you actually use it. I don't buy it for the name. I buy it because it's good. Now if you don't like the iPod, that's fine, but clearly your friend likes it. And for good reason. Trust me I've had my share of lower cost hardware. Cheap doesn't = value IMO.

I agree it's an expensive player, but I think my 15 GB iPod is worth it. I would have hoped the iPod mini would have been $25-50 cheaper though.

A bazillion iPod minis

Yeah, the price does seem a little bit high. $50 more for 15gb. And the new design isn't what I expected. Oh well, still pretty cool!

i think the point missed is it's aimed at things like the 512MB iriver flash players..... if you're happy w/ a bigger mp3 player, then fine, get it. this is small as hell... aimed at that market.
